When you go home at the end of a busy day at work, and your partner asks how your day was, do you talk about the percentage increase in your productivity, or how many emails you sent and received? No, you tell a story. You might talk about the amazing conversation you had with someone over lunch, or give an update on your coworker who is having some health issues. Why are stories so powerful? What is it about the human brain and how it works that makes a story so critical to successful fundraising? In this keynote, Leah digs into the brains of our donors, and shares research and insights into the role of narrative in guiding donor behavior. Using everything learned throughout the day, Leah then conducted a live (and authentic) story-gathering interview and, together, the audience created a fundraising appeal for one lucky organization in the room. Keynote address, and live story gathering, at the AFP Westchester NY Chapter National Philanthropy Day conference on November 13, 2018

Since we can remember, people...moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles--that friend that likes to over-exaggerate even to the tiniest of details--have been telling stories to excite, intrigue, convince or impress their listening audience. If you think of it, storytelling is the most single powerful communication tool we have that can captivate, connect emotions, authentically engage and bond your messaging with your audience.

Anyone familiar with the Bible and Aesop’s fables already knows that stories are the oldest persuasive tool since the dawn of time. And now everybody from the The Wall Street Journal to LinkedIn is saying that storytelling will be the number one business skill needed in the next five years. That’s why you should run, don’t walk, to see the hands-on business storytelling workshop with Cynthia Hartwig, fiction writer and co-founder of Two Pens. Over the course of her career in advertising and social media, Cynthia Hartwig has honed the act of telling stories into a fun and practical art. She’ll lead you in a series of practice-makes-perfect exercises that will help you to persuade, excite, sell and sway people to your point of view. You’ll see how stories can be used in all kinds of business settings to communicate and connect with employees, customers, colleagues, partners, suppliers, and the media. You’ll learn the mechanics of telling a story with a beginning that hooks you, to a middle that builds tension, to a satisfying end. You’ll learn how to weave rich information (even numbers) with personal insights and emotional power and then experience the thrill of having an audience remember what you’ve said. Many writing exercises are included to help you tap into the mind’s unique hard-wiring that can create a story out of almost any experience.

Storytelling is not only an entertaining source for information, but a way to engage and humanize our messages that helps them stick. Our brains are wired for stories. Like a drug, we seek them out. Good stories create lasting emotional connections that persuade, educate, entertain, and convert consumers into brand loyalists. Here’s another good reason to believe in the power of stories: You don't have a goddamn choice. We spend a third of our waking hours crafting stories, and the rest of the time consuming them. Our brains are always searching for stories. You need stories. You live your life around stories. Your life itself is a story. So, now find out how you can use them to better understand how brands and businesses can use storytelling to increase engagement and sales.

There is a growing appreciation of the importance of story in all forms of communication, but there is still a tendency to think of story as something distinct from fact, a kind of decoration on top of the basic communication of facts. This presentation argues that the distinction is false, that it is really stories all the way down, and that it is when we forget the every phrase and every sentence invokes a story, that we fail to communicate effectively.

We've all seen the great presentations that left us mesmerized. And we all know the great presenters that we seek out at conferences to fight for a seat to attend. In both cases, what we are really seeking out - are great storytellers to engage and keep us captivated. Want to get your next great idea across? Become a Great Storyteller.

As interaction designers we do well at facilitating the complex dialogue between people and the interactive products they use. But we often neglect to consider the story that evolves through the interactions people have with the things we make. Designing with a narrative in mind can make a difference between a product that merely functions well and a product that engages the minds, emotions and imaginations of users. Drawing on personal experience, narrative theory and examples ranging from interactive products to film, this presentation is a call to action for designers to equip themselves with a deeper understanding of narrative techniques. We’ll focus on core aspects such as theme, scene-making, and sequencing to illustrate how thinking like a storyteller can make you a better designer. You’ll also learn how this approach can be a powerful basis for holistic design. Link to video: http://www.ixda.org/resources/cindy-chastain-thinking-storyteller

During this session, Kalev Peekna and Jessica DeJong explored interactive storytelling – one of the hottest new techniques used in digital marketing. They shared a brief history of how storytelling connects people, why it’s so powerful for relationship marketing and why digital offers exciting and unique opportunities for sharing your stories. Their examples explored how firms can combine different media to create an immersive experience for clients and build stronger relationships. Discover the Kisan Call Centre: Your Gateway to Agricultural Assistance KISAN CALL CENTRE In order to harness the potential of ICT in Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare launched the scheme “Kisan Call Centres” (KCCs) on January 21, 2004. Main aim of the scheme is to answer farmers’ queries on a telephone call in their own language. These call centres are working in 21 different locations in the country covering all the States and UTs. A countrywide common eleven digit Toll Free Number 1800-180-1551 has been allotted for Kisan Call Centre. This number is accessible through mobile phones and landlines of all telecom networks including private service providers. Replies to the farmers’ queries are given in 22 local languages. Kisan Call Centre services are available from 6.00 AM to 10.00 PM on all seven days of the week at each KCC location. Kisan Call Centre agents known as Farm Tele Advisors (FTAs), who are graduate or above (i.e. PG or Doctorate) in Agriculture or allied sectors (Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Poultry, Bee-Keeping, Sericulture, Aquaculture, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Marketing, Bio-Technology, Home Science, etc.) and possess excellent communication skills in respective local language. Queries which cannot be answered by FTAs are transferred to higher level experts. These experts are Subject Matter Specialists (SMSs) of State Departments of Agriculture (SDAs), ICAR Institutes, KVKs and State Agricultural Universities (SAUs). A Kisan Knowledge Management System (KKMS) has been developed to capture all the details of the caller and sending gist of answer given through SMS. KKMS has its independent website : http://dackkms.gov.in. The KCC, FTAs working at various KCC locations throughout the country have access to this website through their specific IDs and password provided to them. Welcome to the Kisan Call Centre - your one-stop destination for agricultural assistance and support. With dedicated team of experts and cutting-edge technology, we're here to revolutionize the way farmers access information and guidance. In this powerpoint, we delve into the world of the Kisan Call Centre, exploring how it functions, the services it offers, and the impact it has on farmers across the nation. From real-time advisory services to multilingual support, we'll uncover the key features that make the Kisan Call Centre an indispensable resource for farmers of all backgrounds. The recently published educational policy document under the title ‘National Education Policy Reform’ (NEPF for short) has been the subject of much criticism. Various parties have expressed their grave concerns about this proposed NEPF on many platforms. This document attempts to cover some angles which the author deems less covered in other criticisms. This critique is by no means complete or exhaustive; rather, the author prefers that it be read in conjunction with other such criticisms.
