Ending homelessness through employment and housing requires a focused effort aimed at building linkages with the mainstream workforce system, using innovative, proven strategies and advocating for the necessary resources and supports. Homeless jobseekers with barriers to employment are disadvantaged in the best of times. In the current economy, agencies need better tools and skilled practice. In this pre-conference session, we will help participants make use of new the Community Employment Pathway guidebook provided by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to create training and job opportunities, explore how hopeFound has combined a Housing First, work first program using motivational interviewing as a cornerstone practice. Speakers also addressed the need for local and national advocacy for financial resources, employment encouraging policies, and access to mainstream services.

Running head: CULTURAL COMPETENCY AND TREATMENT CULTURAL COMPETENCY AND TREATMENT Cultural Competency and Treatment of persons with mental illness Alexis Lowe Professor Patricia Coccoma HUMN 6511- Treatment of Forensic Populations June 16, 2019 Cultural Competency and Treatment of persons with mental illness The culturally diverse forensic population that I chose to research is those who are mentally ill. This population is of particular interest to me because I have always wanted to work in agencies that do an intervention for members of this population and I have always felt that something should be done when I find helpless people on the streets who are mentally ill. Mentally ill persons can be described using characteristics which cut across the population but lean mostly to the side of those who have an extreme mental illness. Most of them experience financial distress, homelessness, lack of money to rent houses and dependence of social programs like social security. Others have violent behavior and remain dependent on mental services for a long time (Naylor et al., 2016). The mentally ill often commit small crimes and because of their health situation, they find themselves in difficult situations. According to Rickwood, 2006, mentally ill persons going through corrections procedures often suffer more psychological problems and this limits their chances of recovery. The Unique Characteristics of Mentally Ill Patients Rickwood explores the representation of the mentally ill in the criminal justice system. According to Rickwood, the mentally ill are over three times more represented in the criminal justice compared to the ordinary community and this is something of concern. In certain cultures, more persons who have a mental illness live in correction facilities compared to others. However, incarceration is seen to be a major cause of mental health problems due to some of the corrective measures that are employed. Depression among Hispanics is noted to be highest at slightly over 10%, followed by African Americans than Whites (Corin, 2017) Depression cuts across all age groups and genders in the recent past. According to Rickwood there is need to ensure that specialized and professional mental health services are provided in correctional facilities to ensure that the correction process does not negatively impact the victims. pre-release preparation and post-release follow-up are key areas that need a proper overhaul to ensure that the number of cases of relapse is reduced accordingly. Proper understanding of the cultural background of a patient is a major consideration in choosing treatment procedures and it ensures that the health service provider is cult rally aware of the implications of certain choices on certain groups of people. Running head: IDENTIFYING THE POLICY PROBLEM 1 IDENTIFYING THE POLICY PROBLEM 5Identifying the Policy Problem Unit 3 Assignment 1 January 30, 2020 Identifying the Policy Problem Child abuse takes place in all parts of the world and has been a common problem that can be mentally, emotionally, sexually, and even physically. Indiana has been one of the most common states that report child abuse in the year 2017. Indiana has been among the many states that have reported the high rates of child abuse. There were around 29,000 cases of child abuse in Indiana. Old people in Indiana were reported to have molested their granddaughters, and other many cases still under investigation. The interviews that have been conducted on both male and female suspects showed that the warrant had been issued for their arrest. Many have been arrested and charged with the issue of child abuse. Many have been however building shortly after they have been arrested. The victims advocate that they been kept safe since the crimes that they have been charged with being exposed. The forensic interview that they have been subjected to entailed a detailed conversation about the entire alleged crime, which is either to corroborate or disprove the entire case or the allegations (Clark, 2017). The interview that took place in the Indiana Department of the children's service entails speaking with the immediate family so that they can be able to talk about the safety of the children molested. The law enforcement agencies are issuing a warrant to the suspects, while the victims are advocating for them to put place by the DCS. They will need to have developed the safety plan for all the children that are abused. They are also expected to answer some of the questions that are in regard to the case from the family and what action is to be taken in regard to the interventions that are required to the victims. The crime takes the easy target, or the victims who are ready to abuse or they lack parents or do not have the guardian. In most cases, the granddaughters are mostly the good target from their grandfathers. No one can be sensing there is a danger, or there is anything that is happening to the children. The old people perceive them as the vulnerable target, and they are also accessible to them any time. The many grandfathers who abuse the children have the opportunity and the motivation to offend the victims that are lacking parental care at the same time looking for the girls whom they abuse. From the studies that are being done, it shows that the abuse that is done on the children is random and they are premediated. Because of the nature of the abuse, it shows that the people who abuse the children are the people who know very well about the children and their parent's routine as well (Clark, 2017). They know when the children are alone and when they can know them, and hence that makes them conduct such acts. They can be able to relate to the patterns that they .

In the Family Violence course at the University of Arizona, our group was tasked with creating a program to improve the lives of victims of assault. Oral health education is exceptional for recognizing the symptoms of abuse to stop them, but lacking in providing competent services to put people who have been assaulted at ease. This ongoing education program, devised by N. John F. Porter and developed by a team of fellow public health students, looks to fix that problem, generating more business for oral health professionals and helping people in need get the care they deserve.

Introduction The National Health act of 1946 was a monumental bill that was passed that changed the mental health landscape in this country. The National Mental Health Act of 1946 provides federal funding for psychiatric education and research. Mental illness is considered a common but undertreated health condition in the United States. According to the Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality, in 2014, approximately in 1 in 5 adults aged 18 or older in the U.S., around 43.6 million adults (18.1% of all adults in this country), had mental illness in the past year and roughly 9.8 million adults in the U.S. (4.1% of all adults in this country) had severe mental illness in the former year. Despite the magnitude of the frequency of this illness and the many evidence-based opportunities for applicable treatment and care, a significant proportion of individuals with mental illness do not receive the mental health services that they need. Although there have been recent developments in mental health services and policy, there are still many problems with the U.S.’s mental health system. A persistent and major issue has been the lack of funding, which has resulted in a lack of access to services. For its time the National health act was ground-breaking as it ministered many and brought much awareness and improvement towards the field of mental health. However, now days we have a crippling mental health issue where there is a plethora of citizens suffering and not being treated along with affecting countless veterans, homeless, and convicts with no manner to receive help. Promoting local, state, and national collaborative efforts can aid in awareness of this issue and in the implementation of innovative solutions. By increasing mental health funding, the access and expansion of pertinent services and resources will lead to significant relief for those in need.
