Superintendent's Update to the Board on activities happening in the Vancouver School District
![Report to Board [Dec. 12, 2011]
We still have an on-going bargaining impasse and job action – hoping
for a mutually agreed upon settlement soon. Currently working through
student reporting and grade 12 marks.
Schools/sites visited
• UBC farm with Kevin Millsip
• Visited the Nursery
• Total Ed and Spectrum-West Alternate Education programs
• Students at Kitchener – they had written about the Balanced
calendar
Met with the College and University representatives on the BC Council
on Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT)
Attended a meeting called by the Deputy Minister and Minister on
December 8 at the BCSTA conference regarding the BC Education Plan.
Also at the BCSTA Trustees’ Academy – two Vancouver groups of
students - the Eric Hamber Jazz Choir and the Gladstone Musical
Theatre and Dance Programs were the featured student entertainment
at the BCSTA conference Patti introduced the musical theatre and I
introduced the choir – both received standing ovations.
Attended the BCTF and CUPE receptions as well.
Reminder of the IOUE annual United Way breakfast on December 29 at
