LEGISLATIVE MANDATES
• Tourism Act, 1993 (Act No 72 of 1993) as amended, makes provision
for the promotion of tourism to and in the Republic and for the further
regulation and rationalisation of the tourism industry, measures aimed
at the maintenance and enhancement of the standards of facilities
and services hired out or made available to tourists; and the coordination and rationalization, as far as practicable, of the activities of
persons who are active in the tourism industry.

JOHANNESBURG TOURISM • • • Objective: • promotion of tourism, which entails the initiation, promotion and implementation of activities that lead to increased volumes of business for the tourism private sector in the City of Johannesburg (CoJ). Primary function • promote Johannesburg as a business, lifestyle, sport and leisure destination both locally and internationally. Operations include • running a Convention Bureau, • running a Visitor and Tourism Information Bureau, • co-ordinating city-wide tourism marketing programmes, • tourism information gathering and analysis.
