2. What is the… Green house effect? -A rapid increase in Earth’s average surface temperature over the past century Climate change? -seasonal changes over long periods of time Global warming? –a slow and steady increase in planet-wide temperatures
3. How are greenhouse gasses, climate change, and global warming each related? Greenhouses gasses and global warming both contribute to climate change.
4. Primary Causes of Global Warming Primary causes are believed to be the expansion of the greenhouse effect caused by humans.
5. What are the possible consequences if we do not work to stop global warming? Changing weather patterns- More hot, dry weather causing heat waves and wildfires. Health- Excessive heat waves have caused the deaths of at least 225 people in one year. Wildlife- Polar bear are dying because they cannot last the long swims to reach ice. Unless we take action to help them, they are predicted to be extinct in Alaska by 2050. Sea levels/glaciers- Melting ice caps are causing sea levels to rise drastically. Also, all glaciers in Glacier National Park are predicted to melt by 2070.
6. Global Warming’s Impact on Economy Drastic changes in weather conditions could result in crop failures. Investments in renewable resources could potentially make several billion dollars and create approximately 35,000 jobs.
7. What are several ways we can all fight Global Warming? Some popular and simple ways to fight Global Warming are: Recycle Use less heat and air conditioning Use compact fluorescent light bulbs Use less hot water Drive less often Plant a tree
8. Basic Arguments Against Global Warming Some scientists argue that global warming does not exist, and trying to fix something that is not there may be harmful to the economy. Others believe that if it does exist, it may only have minor effects.
9. Personal Opinions We believe that global warming does in fact exist, and may cause more serious problems in the future, so steps may as well be taken now to help slow the effects.
