Teach Kids to Cook Now So You Don't Hate Yourself Later
It's important to teach kids to cook if you don't want your grown children showing up on your doorstep every night for dinner along with their roommates. This will also help you avoid having to pay the pizza delivery guy hundreds of dollars each month when that kid is in college.
Kids are going to have to learn to cook. Instead of waiting until they're out on their own, why NOT have them do it now when it would help you out with home time management at the same time.
So, how do you teach kids to cook?
Well, let them pick a single thing to start with and let them cook that several times until they're comfortable with it. My older daughter started with ramen noodles while the younger one started with burritos.
Ms. Burritos evolved from sticking them in the microwave, to putting them in the oven, to making a casserole out of them. She was growing.
But let’s talk about the short-term goal right now which is to have them be responsible for certain meals which can be worked around their school and dating schedule.
Believe me… they will eventually spread their wings and will take on more responsibility for cooking... even if it IS grudgingly.
So… why would you hate yourself later if you don't teach kids to cook now?
There are a few reasons I can think of:
• It would be one of those things you'd look back and see how much time you'd wasted
• You would miss out on a lot of quality time with your child cooking together
• It is your responsibility as a parent to teach your kids to be self-sufficient and part of that is being able to cook
• By passing on some of the responsibility you could have lessened your own load
My job as a Home Time Management Coach is to help you save time on the things you HAVE to do… such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, and housework so that you can reinvest that time into your marriage, your kids, your family and friends, and even yourself.
