Circuits in Series and Parallel


Circuits can be built so that the current has one or more
paths to travel along.
Series Circuits


A circuit in SERIES has only 1 path to travel along.

Series Circuits

To measure current, an ammeter is always connected
in series to the part being measured.




   Example:
Parallel Circuits

A circuit in PARALLEL has branched paths the
electricity may split-up into.




    Example:
Parallel Circuits


 To measure voltage, a voltmeter is always connected in
 parallel to (surrounding) the part being measured.




    Example:




Here, the voltmeter is measuring the voltage of the source.
Circuits in Series and Parallel




You can also have a circuit with components that are
both in series and in parallel.
