015-6 Planting Design : Putting Principles into Practice
015-6 Planting Design Review homework (Owl Home & Elevation Study). Destinations Lecture : more planting design techniques for creating special gardens
015-6 Planting Design Result: Have a rendered planting plan with plant list plus an elevational design for your portfolio
The class presents Owl Home as studies in shade, perennial or kitchen garden!
Each solution is an individual as a fingerprint and perfectly suited to the space
Designing a Master Garden Plan #2 Visualize a small courtyard garden in this space…draw lines of beauty on the photograph to represent bed lines. Use the outline form and sketch the plant masses you find inspirational. This does not have to be to scale. The 3’circle will act as your guide. Make a list of plants you would like to see in this garden.
The centerline is an invaluable tool for organizing difficult spaces… 3
2 Sketch a bilaterally symmetrical garden design superimposed on this photo
Planting in Elevation: creating spaces with plant materials Trace the plant masses on the following 3 photographs to learn massing techniques. Trace the line quality to learn line of beauty techniques Make a list of plants you would use in these 3 instances. Divide up plants into Tree, Shrub,Ground Cover, Accent.
Transfer plants from photograph #2 onto this base…by eye (This study is an optional exercise) 1
A line of beauty will organize a border
Note how the line of beauty crosses the drive and continues on to the other side to complete its curve.
Driveway Planting Plan
Designing with a blank canvas What do they think they want to do in the space? What will Fit? Has everybody voiced his opinion? The Challenge: How to divide spatial functions beautifully and seamlessly Do 2 schemes that you would like on the space.
