The Fire Science Diploma program and associated certificate programs at Moultrie Technical College prepare students for careers in firefighting and fire leadership. The diploma programs include Fire Science Technology, Firefighter/EMT, and certificate programs include Firefighter I & II, Fire Company Officer, and Fire Officer I & II. The programs provide classroom and hands-on training to develop the skills and qualifications needed for fire service jobs and certifications. Completion times range from one term for certificates to five terms for the diploma programs.
2. Program Description
The Fire Science Diploma is a sequence of courses
designed to prepare fire service personnel at all
levels to become better officers and leaders. The
program provides learning opportunities which
introduce, develop, and reinforce academic and
occupational knowledge, skills, and attitudes
required for job acquisition, retention, and
advancement. Additionally, the program provides
opportunities to retrain and upgrade present
knowledge and skills.
The Fire Company Officer certificate of credit
programs are accomplished while a student works
toward completion of the Fire Science Technology
diploma or independently of the diploma option. It
meets qualification standards for national
certification. The Fire Company Officer programs
presents critical subject matter to students who,
upon completion of the certificate, would be
prepared to serve as a fire department supervisor
on a permanent basis.
3. Program Description
The Firefighter/EMT diploma program is
designed to qualify graduates to become
successful fire service personnel with
additional training in emergency medical
technology. Completion of specific
program area requirements prepares
students to test for state and national
certifications.
The Fire Fighter I & II certificate of credit
programs are conducted in cooperation
with the Georgia Firefighter Standards and
Training Council to ensure graduates have
the skills, knowledge and credentials to
serve as firefighters in paid and volunteer
fire departments. Graduates will be tested
and certified at the National Professional
Qualifications level.

Comprehensive Occupational
Medical Program for Fire
Departments, or physician release
to participate. Physical Fitness
Requirements: All candidates
should be in excellent condition.
Additional physical fitness
requirements may be added based
on any revisions to NFPA
guidelines or action taken by
Georgia Fire Fighters Standards
and Training.

How often do we register?
You are required to register before the first day of class upon initial
entry. Each following term, all current students will be preregistered
at an appointed time.
What is the procedure for registering each term?
Contact your program advisor in person during new student
registration day or preregistration week if you are a current student.
When should core classes be taken?
Core classes may be taken at any time during enrollment.
How long does it take to complete the program?
Fire Science Diploma is 5 terms
