How effective is your combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
Ancillary text  	 Following the tradition of our video (black and white), I decided to create a simple yet eye-catching digipack cover and advertisement to promote our music video. This was our unique selling point as it represents the artist and her song ‘No Time Fi Dem’. I believe that it is important that my music video, digipack and magazine advert had a strong visual link so that my target audience could relate each ancillary text.  I believe that the combination of my main products and ancillary text are effective and that there’s a fair amount of synergy.
Effective Combination - Digipack The combination of ancillary text synergise together in order for my target audience to recognise the artist’s identity.  This results in power of sale which is consumed through union channels in order to target a variety of audiences.
As we can see, my ancillary text are consistent and correlate with each other.  In my ancillary tasks I’ve challenged real media products as I’ve changed and have adapted my own. Looking at various different dancehall/reggae AND R&B (in order to expand my understand and research) advert and CD covers. Same ancillary text Lips edited pink Same props, i.e. Sunglasses, clothes and tiara/accessories Black and white colour scheme Sticking out chest area Revealing stomach – dancehall convention
My digipak’s images relates back to the Dancehall genre as the artist features on the front of all of the products making her recognisable. Initially, the music video was meant to have selected areas in flashing colours, however we were unable to perform this as Final Cut Pro didn’t have it.  Using InDesign and Photoshop allowed me to put together my digipak and magazine advert.  Using these programs wasn’t as difficult as last year’s work as I am more familiar and confident with using them professionally.  I believe I integrated all of the necessary information in order to make my final products successful by including the release dates. Doing this allows audience access to be easier (as I included websites at the bottom of the advert).
Theme… The main theme of the song ‘no time for them’ is to highlight that true Dancehall isn’t about materialistic possessions and objectifying women as is shown in a fair handful of dancehall videos in the modern industry, but more about women independence in general.  This is shown having our artist push away a male dancers in several shots to reinforce the fact that she hasn’t got time for anyone especially men who think they can get her through flashing materialistic things.  This is also shown through (mise en scene) facial and body expressions and gestures which is also included in our digipack (CD cover and magazine advert).
The main theme of my music video is the urban dancehall and reggae scene which is influenced by the conventions of Jamaican life which heavily influences the dancehall/reggae music industry. To an extent, my music video has been influence by these conventions and I’ve incorporated them in my final music video, CD cover and Magazine Advert.  I’ve kept the black and white them throughout all three of my final products in order to produce my products unique selling point. The colour edits on my ancillary text, on both advert and CD cover, creates a link between the two so that my target audience would recognise the ancillary text which also correlates well with the dancehall/reggae orientated genre.
Overall.... Overall I believe my ancillary text correlate together effectively in order for my target audience to recognise the artist and the products.  I’ve stuck to a similar colour scheme; black and white and pink, green and yellow for selected areas to create a unique selling point.  I’ve challenged my artist’s image in terms of hair, makeup and clothes. Her makeup isn’t too drastic and her clothes are not minimal but are at a modest level. I feel like I’ve achieved challenging conventions of women (main artist) as shown in the video and digipack, there is not a great amount of explicit dancing/poses in comparison to usual dancehall videos.

  • 1. How effective is your combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
  • 2. Ancillary text  Following the tradition of our video (black and white), I decided to create a simple yet eye-catching digipack cover and advertisement to promote our music video. This was our unique selling point as it represents the artist and her song ‘No Time Fi Dem’. I believe that it is important that my music video, digipack and magazine advert had a strong visual link so that my target audience could relate each ancillary text.  I believe that the combination of my main products and ancillary text are effective and that there’s a fair amount of synergy.
  • 3. Effective Combination - Digipack The combination of ancillary text synergise together in order for my target audience to recognise the artist’s identity. This results in power of sale which is consumed through union channels in order to target a variety of audiences.
  • 4. As we can see, my ancillary text are consistent and correlate with each other. In my ancillary tasks I’ve challenged real media products as I’ve changed and have adapted my own. Looking at various different dancehall/reggae AND R&B (in order to expand my understand and research) advert and CD covers.   • 5. My digipak’s images relates back to the Dancehall genre as the artist features on the front of all of the products making her recognisable. Initially, the music video was meant to have selected areas in flashing colours, however we were unable to perform this as Final Cut Pro didn’t have it. Using InDesign and Photoshop allowed me to put together my digipak and magazine advert. Using these programs wasn’t as difficult as last year’s work as I am more familiar and confident with using them professionally. I believe I integrated all of the necessary information in order to make my final products successful by including the release dates. Doing this allows audience access to be easier (as I included websites at the bottom of the advert).

Theme… The main theme of the song ‘no time for them’ is to highlight that true Dancehall isn’t about materialistic possessions and objectifying women as is shown in a fair handful of dancehall videos in the modern industry, but more about women independence in general. This is shown having our artist push away a male dancers in several shots to reinforce the fact that she hasn’t got time for anyone especially men who think they can get her through flashing materialistic things. This is also shown through (mise en scene) facial and body expressions and gestures which is also included in our digipack (CD cover and magazine advert).
  • 7. The main theme of my music video is the urban dancehall and reggae scene which is influenced by the conventions of Jamaican life which heavily influences the dancehall/reggae music industry. To an extent, my music video has been influence by these conventions and I’ve incorporated them in my final music video, CD cover and Magazine Advert. I’ve kept the black and white them throughout all three of my final products in order to produce my products unique selling point. The colour edits on my ancillary text, on both advert and CD cover, creates a link between the two so that my target audience would recognise the ancillary text which also correlates well with the dancehall/reggae orientated genre.
  • 8. Overall.... Overall I believe my ancillary text correlate together effectively in order for my target audience to recognise the artist and the products. I’ve stuck to a similar colour scheme; black and white and pink, green and yellow for selected areas to create a unique selling point. I’ve challenged my artist’s image in terms of hair, makeup and clothes. Her makeup isn’t too drastic and her clothes are not minimal but are at a modest level. I feel like I’ve achieved challenging conventions of women (main artist) as shown in the video and digipack, there is not a great amount of explicit dancing/poses in comparison to usual dancehall videos.
