2. Research and Planning
When me and my group created our preliminary task, we had
little to no knowledge on how to make films. We figured out
ourselves how to create the continuity from Charlotte walking
through the door by having her do it twice and film it from
outside then inside the door. From then, I have researched many
films to work out how t create a more fluid transition when
doing continuity shots and I feel that my knowledge now on film
making has expanded because of this simple clip in the
preliminary activity.
I have also been more harsh on myself, for example if my
research is not in depth enough in a certain field then I will add
more until I am satisfied with it. Also, when I wasn’t happy with
a shot when creating my final product, I would reposition the
camera and do it again.
3. Construction
Here is just some
comparisons of a few shots
of my final product and all
of the shots from my
preliminary, highlighting
how more professional my
final product looks. I am
happy with how both
turned out however
compared to the
preliminary, my final
product looks a lot more
advanced. The shots from
my preliminary all show
the characters having high
eye-lines and place them in
the centre however within
my final product you can
clearly see who is the
protagonist and the enemy.
4. Lighting, Locations and Sound
In my preliminary, I didn’t have to alter the lighting as it was all
natural within the college setting however the outside lighting
constantly differed within my final product therefore I had to
alter the brightness and contrast on Final Cut Express. This links
to the location of each filming. Because my prelim was filmed
indoors, the lighting stayed the same and also I could control
how I filmed it however outside, the lighting would constantly
change and there were people walking through the shot so I had
to stop filming when there were people.
Finally, I included upbeat, jazz music in my preliminary to reflect
the happy mood of the characters however my final product was
a completely different genre to my preliminary therefore I used
much more bleak and suspenseful music.
