Today is the first part of this two part training series. We will be back on [say 2 nd date] to complete this training with you. Take a minute and write the next training date on the front page of your workbook. Presenter: Go around the room and have people say their name. Ask participants to describe their experience with assistive technology. Go over layout of the workbook. Explain how each slide has a section below it for notes. Remind participants to complete the front page of the workbook. Include in the training dates and ask them to write their name on the front page. They don’t want to lose their book once they spend time writing notes in it. Go over the sections of the book. The good news is that UDL is not in conflict with other methods and practices. It actually incorporates and supports many current research-based approaches to teaching and learning, such as the following: Cooperative learning (group work) Differentiated instruction (see TEAL Center Fact Sheet No. 5 on Differentiated Instruction) Performance-based assessment Project-based learning Multisensory teaching Theory of multiple intelligences Principles of student-centered learning (see TEAL Center Fact Sheet No. 6 on Student-Centered Learning)
