ABOUT FOLLOW ME? The Follow Me! Mission Educate parents about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and setting a positive example for their children to fight childhood obesity. The Follow Me! Goal Create dynamic events, activities and programs through a community based program that effectively reaches families and educates parents about the importance of setting a positive healthy example for their kids. The Alarming Statistics The National Average for Overweight Children in America is 31%. Ohio’s Average for Obese Children is 34% Children who are 10 years old and are overweight have an  80% risk of being  obese as an adult. HOW FOLLOW ME! WAS STARTED? Follow Me! Healthy Parents, Healthy Kids was founded by Laura Miller a single mother who was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio.  Laura had her son, Taylor, at 18 years old and has been determined to live against the stereotype  and be an excellent mother and parent.  Through the years she has developed an extensive background in marketing, branding and events with the past five years focused on the parent market. Four years ago, Laura got really sick.  The doctors told her that she had everything from  severe hypoglycemia to possible lymphoma.  She monitored her diet closely to try to  manage her symptoms with her son watching closely and concerned for her health.   After three years the doctors finally determined that Laura had a severe gluten allergy  which was causing all of her health problems. A couple years ago, Laura was at the grocery store with her son Taylor. While shopping  she noticed Taylor had picked up a drinkable yogurt smoothie and was reading the  nutrition label.  He then called down to her and said “Mom, this has 52 grams of sugar! This isn’t good for me!” and then put it back on the shelf and walked away.  She then  realized that everything that she had been going through and the example that she  set for Taylor in her diet and how it affected her body directly rubbed off on her son  and influenced him on the choices he made with his health, diet and activities. From there Follow Me! Healthy Parents, Healthy Kids was born and with strategic dynamic partnerships with active community leaders like COSI, Commit To Be Fit/10tv,  The Ohio State University, Easton Town Center, Columbus Blue Jackets, Columbus Clippers, Columbus Crew and Nationwide Children’s Hospital we have started to make  a strong headway has been made in the fight against childhood obesity in Central Ohio. FOLLOW ME! EDUCATION & OUTREACH FitClique Studio FitClique Studio Description  (Year-round) The first foundation based studio in Columbus where the best of the best of fitness professionals will come together to instruct the public in one place.  A portion of the proceeds will be donated back to Follow Me! Healthy Parents, Healthy Kids.  FitClique Studio will also provide a home office and classroom space to Follow Me! for outreach & educational programs.  The end goal is to have a series of family based fitness classes along with a fully functional teaching kitchen installed in the kitchen to conduct healthy cooking classes for families. Fundraisers for 2011 Love Yourself Fitness Fundraiser Series – March & September 2011 Fitness professionals will lead free classes across Columbus, Ohio between March 6th & March 26th Studios will collect $5 donations to go towards the Follow Me! program LuluLemon & VSX has offered to donate clothes & gift cards for giveaways Bella Bee’s Workshop partnered with Role Models Magazine – March 2011 Hold a one day princess workshop with Bella Bee’s Workshop at the MI Home Store at Easton.  Charge $20 per kid includes healthy snacks and workshop with special guest, prizes & drawings Strike Out Childhood Obesity Bowl a Thon – May 2011 Get teams of five to sign up for three hour bowling period.   Hold two sessions – first session (family), second session (teen, adult) Hold 50/50 raffle and prizes.  Have each lane sponsored by a company or corporation. Cost – $30.00 per person (includes shirt, shoe rental, games) Healthy Halloween Miniature Golf Outing & Party Families will be encourage to attend our golf outing at Magic Mountain on October  22nd Healthy meal will be catered and served to attending families Prizes for the most holes in one and best costumes will be distributed Cost - $12.00 per participant (includes golf, swag bag & meal) Spread the Joy Holiday Campaign – November 2011 Large poster with outdoor holiday scenes and snowflakes with Dollar amounts on them will be distributed to partner locations. Healthy Parents, Healthy Kids conduct regular fundraising events  and activities to help fund low income families with financial needs for any allied medical condition.   • 3. ABOUT FOLLOW ME? The Follow Me! Mission Educate parents about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and setting a positive example for their children to fight childhood obesity. The Follow Me! Goal Create dynamic events, activities and programs through a community based program that effectively reaches families and educates parents about the importance of setting a positive healthy example for their kids. The Alarming Statistics The National Average for Overweight Children in America is 31%. Ohio’s Average for Obese Children is 34% Children who are 10 years old and are overweight have an 80% risk of being obese as an adult.   • 4. HOW FOLLOW ME! WAS STARTED? Follow Me! Healthy Parents, Healthy Kids was founded by Laura Miller a single mother who was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. Laura had her son, Taylor, at 18 years old and has been determined to live against the stereotype and be an excellent mother and parent. Through the years she has developed an extensive background in marketing, branding and events with the past five years focused on the parent market. Four years ago, Laura got really sick. The doctors told her that she had everything from severe hypoglycemia to possible lymphoma. She monitored her diet closely to try to manage her symptoms with her son watching closely and concerned for her health. After three years the doctors finally determined that Laura had a severe gluten allergy which was causing all of her health problems. A couple years ago, Laura was at the grocery store with her son Taylor. While shopping she noticed Taylor had picked up a drinkable yogurt smoothie and was reading the nutrition label. He then called down to her and said “Mom, this has 52 grams of sugar! This isn’t good for me!” and then put it back on the shelf and walked away. She then realized that everything that she had been going through and the example that she set for Taylor in her diet and how it affected her body directly rubbed off on her son and influenced him on the choices he made with his health, diet and activities. From there Follow Me! Healthy Parents, Healthy Kids was born and with strategic dynamic partnerships with active community leaders like COSI, Commit To Be Fit/10tv, The Ohio State University, Easton Town Center, Columbus Blue Jackets, Columbus Clippers, Columbus Crew and Nationwide Children’s Hospital we have started to make a strong headway has been made in the fight against childhood obesity in Central Ohio.
