This document summarizes an orientation for ESL students at a community college. It provides information over 3 key areas: 1. An introduction to the ESL program levels and classes students can take, including required language labs and credit values. 2. An overview of academic advising services available to ESL students, including walk-in advising hours and appointment times students can meet with advisors. 3. A review of important administrative tasks for new ESL students including registering for classes, paying tuition, obtaining a student ID, acquiring textbooks, and learning about campus services like transportation, food, and health insurance.

O Replacement of your Student ID card is $17 if lost.

26. Metro Bus Information & ORCA Card
O SCC sells a quarterly ORCA CARD for using Metro
bus and other public transportation. The ORCA is
available through Cashier’s Office.
Please see Page 21 for the price for each ride and
zone information.

27. Sickness and Injury Insurance
O Your tuition will include $258.75 per quarter
insurance fee.
O If you have your own insurance plan from home
country, please complete the Insurance Waiver
form when you meet with ESL teachers at 1 p.m.
$258.75 will be deducted from your tuition payment.
O Please come to Medical Assistance & International
Insurance during ISOP Day 3 & 4.
O You will receive: Insurance ID Card & Policy Brochure

28. During your quarter
O You will be invited to meet Academic Advisors during
the 2nd week of the quarter.
O Academic Advisors will also come to your ESL class
to assist you with registering classes for next quarter.
