Fractions represent parts of a whole or group that is divided into equal parts. A fraction has two parts - the numerator which tells how many parts are being considered, and the denominator which indicates into how many parts the whole was divided. When comparing fractions, if the denominators are the same then the fraction with the larger numerator is larger, and if the numerators are the same then the fraction with the larger denominator is smaller.

8. When the numerators are the same: The fraction with the largest denominator is the smallest fraction ½ > ¼ Since both fractions have the same numerator, the fraction with the smallest denominator (2) is the biggest
