1. Music Magazine – Planning Sheet
What genre/s of music will your magazine cover?
URBAN GOSPEL.
Who is the target audience? How old are they? Where do they live? What are their
interests?
The target audience for my magazine will be especially for youths, from the ages of 16-24.
Their interests will be in Urban Gospel, which basically Christian music is, that involved hip-
hop, r&b, rap, but it used in a different way.
What is the name of your magazine? Why? Connotations?
I am torn by two mastheads, which is 'INVASION' and 'THE MESSAGE'. 'INVASION' mostly
connotes how Urban Gospel, which hasn't been classed as Christian music because of how
different it is, so my magazine will kind of be a symbol of a takeover, of urban gospel
'invading'. 'The Message' however reflects my genre more, although it isn't one word, it does
reflect what my magazine will be about.
What will be the focal image for your front cover and why?
My focal image for my front cover will be a female, because my main article is going to be
about, a mainstream artist who has come back after hibernating, yet coming back with A
BANG, and something different.
What photography will be required? Give details of shot type, angle and composition?
The photography that will be taken for my magazine considering the front page will be in a
bird’s eye view, which is a shot looking down on the model of the image. The shot will be of
the model's whole body going against traditional conventions. For my contents page, my
main image will be in an external setting, it will be a long profile shot. For my double page
spread it will be a mixture of shots and angles.
What mise en scene will be required? Location? Clothing? Make Up? Lighting? Use of
color?
I want the background color of the front cover to black, where it will allows the colours of the
clothing that the artists will to stand out, sort of in a neon color. I will use a theme of Orange
and black, or yet Red & White, but the colours will stand out, however they won’t be too
clashing or yet I won’t use too many colours.
What would be your sell lines? How will you entice your target audience?
My sell lines would be like “The FINAL LAUNCH OF…” it would entice the reader to find out,
the use of language, and the way it will be written. Big, bold yet not to extravagant.
What items and feature articles would you need on your contents page?
10 ways to acquire success; be a part of something big; best new selling songs; new artists;
hottest new album.
What is the focus of your double page spread? (interview? feature? Reviews? Etc
The focus of my double page spread will be a feature of a mainstream artist who converts
from R&B to Gospel music. Being a shock and a change to her fans, she explains what
happened, and what her new single is about.
2. What photography will be required for the double page spread? Give specific details
In my double page spread I would like profile pictures at the top, small, in a sepia effect. In
these profile pictures, the female will not be looking at the camera, yet it will be in different
angles, or i may decide to have them all mid-close up pictures, but these small profile
pictures are to show her personality and who she is. I also then want a main image of her in
black and white, where she is looking away from the camera. I want the double page spread
to give off a 90's feel, inviting yet different.
