Lab assignment part II
1.
2. A Fault is a fracture in the crust which has
cause displacement.
In this photo I was on my
way to Pismo Beach,
somewhere on I-5, and we
stopped at a rest stop and
if you look closely you can
see the crack in between
the flowing tall grass.
3. Mechanical weathering is a
processed in which rocks are
broken down into smaller
and smaller pieces without
ever changing the
composition of the rock
itself.
I found this rock in Pismo, in
a place where they show
the “Monarch Butterflies”.
There were tons of these
rocks around.
4. This is root wedging at its
finest. I went on a short
hike in Avila Beach and
found this beaut! The
roots of this tree have
grown into the grooves of
this rock beneath it.
Amazing.
5. These photos I took were in Pismo beach and due to
high winds and rain this past few weeks, trees were
knocked down and rain fall had made its way downhill.
6. Pismo Beach is a Marine Environment,
more so a deep marine environment.
7. Continental Environments: The Pismo
dunes were a great example of dunes in
Continental Environments.
8. Transitional
Environment:
The actual
beach is an
example of
transitional
environment
because the
shoreline is the
transition zone
between
marine and
continental
environments.
9. The Kings River is a major river of
south-central California. About
125 miles (201 km) long, it drains
an area of the high
western Sierra Nevada and
the Central Valley.
A large alluvial fan has formed
where the river's gradient
decreases in the Central Valley
so the river divides
into distributaries.
Southern distributaries enter
the endorheic basin
surrounding Tulare Lake while
northern distributaries join the San
Joaquin River, eventually
reaching San Francisco Bay via
the Sacramento – San Joaquin
River Delta.
Tulare Lake was formerly the
largest freshwater lake in western
North America, but heavy
agricultural and urban diversions
have left it dry. The Kings River
was named by the commander
of a Spanish military expedition
into the Central Valley in 1805.
