Self Evaluation of our film http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYtvACnED3A This is the link to our final product, as a group we are very pleased with our final product. We are pleased with the range of shots we have included and I personally believe it looks very professional.
Introduction For media studies we were asked to pick between making a music magazine or producing a opening sequence for a film. I decided to the opening sequence along with Michael Keenan, Louis Percival and Joel Duxbury. After deciding what type of film we were producing we found the ideal location. Our roles in the film were Me as camera operator whilst Mike, Louis and Joel starred in the film, we were all did the editing together.
Our ideal location
Our High Speed Scene
Comparisons between our film and A Hollywood film Most scenes contain lots of close up shots of characters faces. Contain a good range of shots Clear shots of faces of characters so audience can connect Different types of lighting Parallel music Good use of non diagetic sound
Clothing Comparisons(Adulthood)
Our Clothing
Clothing To make our film look like a British film we tried to keep the clothing as natural as possible, so we looked at films like “Kidulthood” and “28 days later” to see what type of clothing they wore. I personally feel our clothing is very similar to what is seen in British films.
Positive Aspects of our film I personally feel that one major positive aspect of our film is that it is Realistic. Another thing that we have included in our film that I feel works well is our Range of shots. In my opinion I feel that our Good editing has made our film very good. One other thing we have done well in our film is include some fast pace music to match our fast pace scenes. A good use of different lighting from low key to high key. Parallel sound with the music and the fast paced scene.
Negative aspects of our Film Although I feel our film is very good and professional I still believe that there are still some negative aspects for example: One or two of our shots in our film have poor lighting, we tried to lighten these clips but it looked amateur. And another thing that is a little negative is that because we wanted to keep our film as close to 2 minutes as possible we feel that it is a little unclear what happens in the end.
Result of Questionnaire From our Questionnaire we found out that our target audience was 15+, from our audience feedback we found that they liked our film and its special effects. They also said it was easy to establish which genre our film was. But I most importantly they said they wanted to watch more and see what happens to the characters.
Camera shots(Paranormal Activity)
Our handheld camera shots
Comparisons between shots We got this idea from films such as Cloverfeild, Paranormal activity and Fourth kind Both shots are clearly made to look like done from handheld camera. All shots are featured in “Supernatural thriller” films All use special effects All shots use low key lighting
Special effects
Comparison Between Special effects I got the idea of white noise from the film ‘the ring’ Both shots contain the white noise sound but most importantly they both show a distorted picture. I feel effects like this in our film make it more professional which is what we want to achieve.
What have I learnt about technology from constructing the product I have learnt numerous new skills from creating our film these things range from using iMovie and how to use a variety of special effects on the program. Another skill I have learnt is how to upload videos on to YouTube, and I have also learnt how to use some other websites like blogger. One more skill I have learnt is how to import video footage on the camera onto iMovie.
Which media institution might distribute our film? I personally feel that a company like ‘fox searchlight pictures’ I feel these would be suitable to distribute our film due to it there success with ‘28 days later’ and other films such as ‘the hills have eyes’. I also feel there are the ideal company because they specialise in British films.
Preliminary task I feel that our final product is a massive improvement on our preliminary task due to using better effects and smoother editing. Another thing that we have done is include a some different paced editing compared to our preliminary tasks. We have also included a much more varied amount of shots in our final product. So I feel we have achieved what we wanted because we wanted to improve from our preliminary task.
Problems we faced As a group we always knew we were going to encounter some problems but we did not realise we were going to have so many, luckily though we managed to get all the footage we needed. We encountered such problems as: People not being able to film, weather problems, technical problems e.g. camera not working and a broken tri-pod.
Evaluation When making our film I feel I have played a big part in the production of our film due to me not actually being in the film I could see when people were making mistakes so I helped correct them. I also helped set up most of the static shots with the tri-pod and when shots required a panning shot I was able to do this. I also helped out with the filming although most of our group did this well. With our film I believe we have achieved what we wanted and this was to make our film professional with a good use of special effects and a good range of shots.
Evaluation Continued I also feel that by keeping to our script we have made our film look professional, I feel that the music is a massive help too. Overall I am very happy with our film and the group that I was in.
