3. OLD TOWN KAUNAS
• “Kaunas old town is not a major tourist attraction but has a great
relaxed feel about it, full of young people due to the many
education and training establishments in the centre and is an
enjoyable place to pass the time. Given the short time elapsed
since the Soviet era (and the evidence is all around if you care to
look), the city has clearly re-built its own identity and is looking
to a very different future. Not (yet?) dominated by the usual euro-
rubbish catering and shopping outlets, the high quality bars and
restaurants are a pleasure.”

• “50000 Jews and others were killed and buried here. The
day we were there, a film crew, was shooting a medieval

happened. A scary place. Necessary to see to understand
the context of current Lithuania.”

removed after 2005.”
10. KAUNAS CASTLE

service, location, beer selection and food! Place for fun
night out with friends :) Highly recommended”
12. CRAZY HOUSE
• Vilniaus 16, Kaunas, Lithuania
• http://www.crazyhouse.lt
• “The atmosphere is great and surely lives up to the name. The
decorations are extraordinary with cogwebs and fake spiders on
the ceiling and toilet seats as chairs. There are some fun things
to remind you where you are, such as moving benches or tables
that suddenly go up. The emergency beer refill button is a nice
idea as well. And there's also a special crazy menu for people
with a sense of humour. And to top all of that off, there's always
something going on in there.”

tavern", and it definitely delivers in this aspect. The menu
is loaded with meat dishes of all sorts, running the gamut
from elk, roe deer, wild boar, and even beaver. If game is
not your thing, there are also plenty of traditional
choices, including steaks”
15. SPURGINE
• Laisves 84, Kaunas, Lithuania
• “You'll want to come here for the doughy delights on offer
(although possibly not for the British Rail era coffee). There's
curd-cheese filled 'Zagareliai' doughnuts, Jersey Wonder style
doughnuts, savoury mushroom-filled doughnut pasties, herby
meat filled doughnuts, jammy
doughnuts, salty, sweet, strawberry, snozberry (whoever heard
of a Snozberry) and icing-sugar dusted doughnuts, there's even
doughnuts with extra doughnut...”
• “50s/60s Soviet-style interior, the colourful, abstract wooden art
on the walls, the bustling, brusque but beaming waitresses (well
they smiled when I tried ordering in Lithuanian!), the old metal
stools, the industrial eastern bloc kitchen that reveals itself
every 30 seconds or so as another tray of golden globules is
carried through to the counter tops.”
16. GRIZZLY GRILL
• Savanoriu 439, Kaunas 49280, Lithuania

20. STALIN WORLD /
GRUTAS PARK
• Grutas, Druskininkai, Lithuania
• http://www.grutoparkas.lt
• “If you are planning to go to Druskininkai, I think Grutas park is one
of the nice place to stop and see around. It's everything about Soviet
Union, all the sculptures... The history... I really enjoyed it!”
• Playgrounds and petting zoos form an increasingly large part of the
park.
• The Park is a text-book example of entrepreneurial spirit and
capitalism at work.
• Simply you have to go and see the place. The prison of those who
have killed thousands.
• “Nice place to visit. I felt like traveling back in time - felt the joy of
Soviet Union times ( I was kid then): young soldiers dancing with
young girls, free milk and cookies, marching pioners (I didnt like
they untidy uniforms - as I remember we were so strictly perfect and
clean) for sure made some atmosphere.”

22. DRUSKININKAI
AQUAPARK
• Vilniaus al. 13-2, Druskininkai LT 66119, Lithuania
• http://akvapark.lt
• “I loved the spa side of the Aquapark, with the saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs and
relaxing areas; my boyfriend loved the waterpark crazy slides side. My favourite
parts were sitting outside in a hot tub in the snow, the honey rub session in a steam
room, and the hamman - where we just lay on hot slabs and relaxed.”
• I am glad they don't allow kids to enter the area as this is where you will find a piece
of quiet. It has a variety of different saunas for everyone's needs and
preferences, i.e. from hot and dry to very humid saunas. There are a couple of nice
pools (outside/inside), jaccuzzi, and etc. What I like the most about this bath-houses
area that it has a lot of special sessions, such as salt, honey, face masks and etc.
which start at certain times during the day and are free of charge!
• I always book using the special offer, which gives you a hotel room with buffet
breakfast and dinner - 2pm to 9pm 1st day, and 10am -12 noon 2nd day in the
waterpark. I have been to the ones at Riga and Vilnius, which, although good, not in
the same league as Druskininkai.
• Nudist Arena
• Over 20 bathhouses

24. SICILIJA
• Taikos 9, Druskininkai, Lithuania
• “The restaurant has a nice interior and also it has a terrace
outside with a view to a small river. Location is good. The
service was really good, we got our pizzas very quickly.
The sofas are very comfortable and we really liked the
place, we'll be coming back for sure. And it's not pricy!”
26. CURONIAN SPIT /
KURSIU NERIJA
NATIONAL PARK
• Klaipeda 93100, Lithuania
• http://www.nerija.lt/en
• “Definitely plan to take a day to go to the beach/dunes/bike ride
on the Curonian Spit. Beautiful views, perfect and long
beaches, and good hiking/biking. Stop in the town at the
end, relax over som Chili Picca (spelling is probably wrong)--
yes, its a chain, and I resisted, too!! But it is very good. My
favorite part of the Spit is the beautiful beaches. Please note
some women will be out bathing in the nude (though they tried to
be discreet in semi-hidden areas when we were there in off-peak
season). Apparently the summer months bring many
tourists, but during our visit in early May it was just warming up
and fairly bare, though the weather was perfect (about 75-80
degres Fahrenheit). We also rode to the border with Russia just
to say we did.”
