What hunches do we have about this
situation?
-She posted something inappropriate
-She was naive
-She was ashamed of it
-She may not have posted it.
-Her name was on it.
-Her virtual was not really virtual
-It might be altered
-It might come back to haunt her later in
life.


What do we know about this situation?
-Her friends didn’t know about it.
-She did post it herself.
-It appears she wasn’t prepared for the reaction.
-Adult attention was there.
-She could be a potential victim.
-Wasn’t aware of the potential/possibility for adult
attention, or adults seeing it.
-Image is being spread and its beyond her control.
-Doesn’t know how to take it down.
-No telling how many people have taken it and
shared it.
-Can’t take the image back


What questions do we have about this situation?
-Did she post this image at school using school
technology?
-What is the school’s liability in taking the picture down?
-How much content has she posted? -How much
content could be used against her as a victim?
-How do you track who has seen the image?
-When should the school have implemented training to
help students understand what happened? A class
addressing risk involved?
-Where did she post it?
-How did she post?
-How can we keep kids from doing the same thing?
-What is the school’s responsibility as far as it
happening?
-Are parents responsible for what gets posted on the
Internet?

Strict Father Response
• So we're supposed to ignore the fact
that students are trading pornographic
pictures via MySpace? For that reason
alone I've denied access to this site.
• I'm not risking student exposure to
pornography or risk alienating parents
on a site that has questionable
educational value at best when there are
many more sites that have solid
educational value.


Nurturing Parent Response

• If nothing else --the "trainwreck" of
myspace--has allowed a great deal of
open communication at my school with
both parent's and students.
• If communication is education --which I
firmly believe it is --then bring the train
wreck on. I can make a lesson out of it.
