WHAT IS A SMARTPHONE A Smartphone has the basics of a normal phone in terms of the fact that you can make telephone calls, but what separates it from the rest is that also adds in features that you might find on a personal digital assistant or a computer for examples the ability to send and receive e-mail and edit Office documents.

4. ADVANTAGES OF SMARTPHONES They help you keep in touch with what's happening all around the world because of internet service, this can help especially for business men. They can keep your life planned because you can schedule your life on them due to their multi sophisticated features and this is advantageous to business men/women and scholars They help people stay connected as you can access several social networks and e mail all in one click as most of them have these features built in and therefore help in the socialising department. It also helps because you are in touch at all times and therefore available if any emergencies arise.

5. DISADVANTAGES OF SMARTPHONES Smartphones are quite pricey and therefore are not accessible to a lot of people because of tariffs as most require you to have a contract, and in a country like South Africa it is not cheap it affects the performance of scholars because of the several features it has and because they are available at all times they use these phones during class and it affects their studying because the are too occupied with their phones. The fact that they are portable, those in the workplace may struggle to draw the line between personal life and business as they have the ability to constantly be browsing and emailing relatives who are at a distance. And they have this ability because there is no one monitoring them and therefore this has a negative effect on their work Although smartphones are advantageous in terms of keeping peoples social lives alive, they also have their down side. This is because there are people who instead of socialising with those they are with, they are rather speaking to others over the web. This dampens peoples social lives because it creates the inability to socialise face to face.

6. MY VIEW My view on the issue is that smartphones were intended to be a revolution for the better. The problem is that they have been abused in terms of the fact that people are letting them get in the way of their work, business and social life. All this can be changed if people prioritise and utilise their smartphones when necessary and therefore education, workplace productivity and socialising will not be dampened.

7. SURVEY I did a random survey of students around the school and how they have been affected by the smartphone revolution in class, while studying and while socialising with people around them. Information was also gathered from various people who work and how smartphones affect them. The graph in the following slide portrays the results that were obtained. Yellow represents the people who were not affected and the green represents those who are affected.

9. CONCLUSION Smartphones have proven to be a revolution but the pros are heavily out weighed by the cons as research has proven that they are affecting people in the work place, school and when it comes to interaction and therefore it has proven the stance that they have indeed been a negative aspect in all three fields.
