While it's not an easy thing to do considering how many people want to be the top search result for one particular search keyword, it's not hard to do the things that only you can do. Google relies on people who visit your site to tell them if your site is relevant to the search; this means you need to get everything as right as possible on your end before you can then leave it to visitors to clue Google into how relevant you are.
