device trial.

heard his father’s voice
for the first time.
The world
cheered him on.

4. The auditory brain
stem implant was a
delicate surgery
that required the
work of a Head &
Neck surgeon and a
Neurosurgeon.
Grayson had two
of UNC’s best –
Drs. Craig
Buchman and
Matthew Ewend.

on Grayson six
months after
receiving the
device.

Clamp, sits with
him in a hearing
booth as he
listens for tone
at different
frequencies.

says frequency
range is important

understanding
speech.
