6. “Nostalgia for the
accidental scarcity we’ve
just emerged from is just
a sideshow.
The main event is trying
to shape the greatest
expansion of
expressive capability
the world has ever
known.”
Howard Rheingold,
‘NetSmart’
14. Since our education systems were first
established there has been enormous change in
the nature of societies,
change in the nature of work,
change in how knowledge is viewed, and
change in technologies, to name just a
few.
Those changes, and the certainty of ongoing
change, have implications for the kind of
education our young people require, and the
focus of the teaching and learning they
experience

17. The potential of new technologies to
transform
teaching and learning is heavily dependent on
educators’ abilities
to see
the affordances and capacities of ICT in
relation to the underpinning themes for
learning for the 21st century

23. How high can you build a
tower before its stability is
affected?
24. The technology is far less important than
the kind of education that it enables.

26. #1 Content that
connects...
“..how people can
participate as
critical, active,
informed, and
responsible
citizens. Contexts
are drawn from the
past, present, and
future.”
- NZC, Social
Sciences
36. When we focus too much on doing things perfectly, we don't engage
in the kind of exploratory thinking and behavior that creates
new knowledge and innovation - Halvorson

42. • How are your students
building on their
interests and passions?
• How can you design
exploration and
multiple pathways into
the learning?
• How can technologies
support that design?
• How can you connect
to communities and
resources to find our
what others are doing?
11.30 As digital technologies permeate our lives, what does this mean for school, for us and our learners and their communities? How should we respond? Drawing on research and school stories, the keynote will provide a thought-provoking challenge for all educators, exploring themes of inclusion, personalisation and the nature of schooling, and touch on practical issues such as BYOD and effective curriculum design. We ’ ll explore key trends in e-learning that are influencing our schools, the role of supports like Enabling e-Learning [ www.elearning.tki.org ] and some of the things that school leaders and classroom teachers might be doing now to respond.

Using low-fi technology...Interactive ice-breaker... Learning challenge 1: Build this... Impact on learners: how do you feel? (both successful & unsuccessful)
Challenge 2: Do this > image is your success criteria Impact on learners: how do you feel? (both successful & unsuccessful)
What if I asked to create your own success criteria? What if the task was an authentic inquiry question? What is the task allowed everyone to contribute? to collaborate? What if it foregrounded the key competencies? These questions are what sits behind the concept of effective e-learning today. The technology is far less important than the kind of education that it enables and mediates.

Watch the video: what is the link between teacher expectation and student learning? KEY IDEA: what is ‘ engagement ’ and ‘ teacher expectation ’ > the expectation leads to engagement and the expectation is about what we know about them (inclusion) THEN how we plan what they learn, why they learn and how they learn it....
