Arch 2030 Presentation
- 4. The 2030 Challenge
âYouâve got to eat your energyÂ
efficiency vegetables beforeÂ
you can have your renewableÂ

Can improve efficiency ofÂ

lost efficiency in envelope,Â
daylighting, or mechanicalÂ
systems.
Need to be flexible for futureÂ
technologies
Look at systems that integrateÂ
all systems â lighting,Â
mechanical, and schedules.
- 13. Dilemmas
Gas versus electric?
Source Power:  Do we design for the now (coal burning plants), or for theÂ
future (renewable energy)?
Renewable energy sources â photovoltaic, wind.
Supply has gone up, but so has demand (and cost).
Limited control of the building performance after turnover. EnergyÂ
Star measures actual use.Â
Increase the education of our building users.
Include ongoing commissioning.

Final Thoughts
It reached the current (2008) goals of Architecture 2030.
Need to monitor ongoing performance and compare to model.
Projects started in the next two years will need to be even moreÂ
efficient to meet the 2010 requirements.
Eventually, weâll need to include onâsite renewable energy (orÂ
purchase credits) to achieve the requirements.
