Princess with large feet
1. O
nce upon a time, there was a small princess with
unnaturally large feet. Miserably, she would
stomp around the palace and listen to the titters,
and the whispers of servants as they watched her. She
absolutely hated her huge size eleven feet and unproportianlly
short body.
“Mom! Please all the women in China do it! They say its
sooo fashionable!!” begged the Princess. They were in the
throne room sewing and working on the looms.
“I will not let you bind your feet! Binding your feet will
give you arthritis and will hurt terribly.” The Queen said as she
sewed.
“But-”
“No more buts! Get to your sewing or else you’ll never be
able to see the sun again!” she cried. It was a cruel world so the
Princess bent her head and began to sew.
2. “Oh I wish I could be free! If I was a servant nobody would
care if I had large feet.” She would whine. It was quite difficult
for her to get out because shoes were the problematic- they
just didn’t come large enough.
The next day the wind whispered to her, “ Kill three
spotted goats, then skin them and tie them around your feet.”
“3 goats? Well, I’ll kill two goats and keep the third.” The
winds weren’t always descriptive and thought of a way to
punish her for her stupidity of not killing 3. So she killed 2 goats
and simply wrapped her feet and tied them with a leather cord.
She was able to walk on the pebble road and along dirty horse
stable. While she was at the horse stable, she saw a servant. He
was very skinny and very tired. The wind blew wildly blew
about her and suddenly she felt sympathy for the servant and
thought about what she could do for him.
“Excuse me!” she called. The wind whispered and cried in
the air.
3. “Yes your Highness?”
“I was wondering if you… well… if you were hungry, I
have a goat if you want…” she stammered out. A huge grin
crossed his face.
“Really? You’d give that goat to me?” he asked.
“Yes stay here I shall get it for you.” The Princess took off
along the palace, her feet causing the castle to tremor; to her
goat pen. In her excitement she saw two other white goats; she
thought that he’d want more so she brought them over as well.
“Thank you!” He dragged the three unwilling goats away
with a huge grin on his face, “I can eat 3 goats for dinner
today!” he exclaimed happily. He guided them into his hut and
tied them firmly to a post. He put his giant pot of water on to
boil over the open fire thinking happily of boiled goat! As he
waited for the goat to cook the sun set and it was dark. He saw
three blobs of light moving in the night and was going to
investigate, but the goat had finished cooking. He ate the goat
4. and patted his stomach. While he ate he thought about the
Princess, she was really kind and except for her large feet she
was quite kind. He didn’t even care about her large feet. Then
he went to bed and thought of the day’s events, smiled, then
slept soundly. Not for more than five minutes though. A heavy
hand pounded at the door non-stop. With sleep on his mind he
went to answer the door. Standing with shining swords, and
ice-cold eyes were 3 knights with lanterns.
“Someone has stolen goats from the royal castle.” They
stated.
“Oh my! The Princess gave me her goat and two others as
well. I will return the two but the first I'm afraid I've eaten. I
apologize, but the Princess-“
“I’ve heard enough of your lies!” one of the guards said
and he rammed his sword into the servant’s chest and killed
him instantly.
5. The next day the princess heard of the terrible deed and
saw the servants’ head hanging from the hand of the knight.
She didn’t know that the other two goats she had grabbed were
sacred goats.
“You will be rewarded for finding our sacred goats. I
wonder who provided him with the goats. He works out in the
fields and shouldn’t be anywhere near the stables or pens.” The
queen wondered aloud. The Princess wanted to know why he
was in the stables as well and stared at her large feet instead of
speaking aloud. The servant was never defended and the
Princess never stopped thinking about the poor servant and
every time she went to the stable, a dead spotted goat always
her.
