However with this magazine the picture overlaps the Masthead, this is because the magazine is known so even by covering a few letters, the audience will still recognise the magazine. Strap Line Based at the top of the magazine just above the masthead. The colours yellow and white makes the strapline stand out. The strapline is used to make the reader want to open the magazine and find out more. Main cover line The font is smaller than the masthead but larger than the other cover lines. It is bold and the white colour of the font against the orange t-shirt makes it an eye-catching cover line. Direct mode of address. Cover lines Cover line also known as ‘puffs’ give us some information about what we will find in the magazine. Language is carefully used, to make the reader want to open the magazine and read on. It tends to be the one of the smallest typefaces on the page. Image The image plays an important role as it represents the ideal reader. It is the first thing the buyer will see. It needs to be able to stand out from a whole range of magazines and grab the audiences attention.
3. Kerrang – content page Author The author welcomes the audience and gives the audience more information about the magazine itself. Index It gives us information on what we can expect to see within the magazine. It has been written in a list form. Images The content page has a number of images which relate to the theme of the magazine and makes the page look more interesting rather than having a lot of writing. On the corner of the images they also have the page number where the audience can go to, to get more information.
4. Kerrang – Double page spread Column Allows the reader to find out easily the new MCR tracks. The white background makes its stand out from the page. Main image Largest picture on the double page spread. It plays an important role as it represents the ideal reader. Text Largest typeface on the page. This is the first thing the reader will see when they open the page. The colours red and white work well with the black background which makes its stand out.
6. Q – Main cover page Masthead The masthead is based at the top of the magazine with the largest font. The background colour of the masthead (red) makes it stand out more. Q is a well known music magazine. It is a monthly magazine which gives us latest news on a monthly basis. The images are bold and stand out which attracts the audience as it trys to be different from other music magazines although it still has the classy and smooth look. The bold image that is used trys to externalize how the band or artist is conveyed. Kings of Leon are the main focus, there is other text which are made to stand out by being bold and using simple text styles making it classy yet different. 7. Q- Content page The content again features the masthead of the magazine, this allows us to identify the institution of the magazine. At the left hand side there is an index of what the magazine contains. The colours are bold which work well together. The red heading stands out which could give us the impression of new and up to date. Below the index there is a box giving the reader information on a special feature within the magazine. The colours (black and white) could give the audience the impression of the article being important. There are two pictures in the content page. The main picture is placed directly in the centre. The text box on the lower left corner of the image gives the reader more information on the band The second image is another picture of an artist, however instead of being a article its a small review at the bottom of the page. The text is in black which works well together with the grey colour of the textbox. Masthead Allows us to indentify the institution of the magazine. Index Gives us an some information on what we will find inside. Main Picture The image will be the first thing the reader sees as it is placed in the middle and the size of the picture is large. The colour the people are wearing within the picture matches the colour theme of the magazine. Review Instead of having an article on the content page they have a small review with a picture.
8. Q – Double page spread Main picture The picture of the band members covers one page. It is the main focus of the double page. The Double page spread has one page which is a picture of a band. It is the main focus of the double page and by looking at the picture the audience will know immediately who the article will be about. The image that is used trys to externalise how the band is conveyed. The text that is placed on the picture is bold and stands out. It has that classy and smooth look. The colours of the text ( white, grey and red) flow with the picture. On the second page, there is an article. The colours used for the text are the same as the colours used for the text on the picture, and the way it has been presented makes it look simple compared to other music magazines for example Kerrang. Text The text is bold and it is the largest typeface. The colours make it stand out from the picture.
