2. What is continuity?
Continuity is the idea of a continuous
scene or concept where everything must
be correct. For instance clothing, and
location must not change throughout the
scene to create a effective continuous
scene
3. The Rules
Within the task there are a few strict
guidelines we much comply to, they are;
- A conversation
180 degree rule
Match on Action
Door
Shot reverse shot
4. 180 Degree Rule
When filming you shouldn’t cross the 180
degree line, otherwise the shot will be un
clear
5. Shot Reverse Shot
This is most commonly used within conversations, when two
characters are speaking the camera will jump back and forth in
time with the speaker
6. Match On Action
A cut which splices two different views of the same action together at the same moment in the
movement, making it seem to continue uninterrupted.
7. Our Initial Idea…
We came up with a modernized version of
the Three wise men's adventure to
Bethlehem, instead or the rural outdoors
setting it is set in the office environment.
Where only two wise men are to be seen
8. How we will use each rule…
180 degree rule-
This rule will be primarily used when
Declan Flannery (Wise man) is running
through the school, we will not cross the
line to produce a flowing continuous
scene, it will also be used within the
conversation between Declan and James
Fitch (wise man)
9. …
Match on Action-
This is used when Declan looks at the
door and his phone, the shots will jump
from his eyes to what he is focusing upon
then back to his expression to convey
what he is feeling at the time
10. …
Shot Reverse Shot
This is used when Declan and James are
conversing with each other, we will
continuously go back and forth between
them attaining all the other rules
11. Acots/Props/Costumes
Actors- James Fitch we will be wearing his blue suit with a cable
neck jumper throughout, with black trousers. Looking very
presentable but un fashionable and out of place
Dec – Christmas jumper black shoes and trousers
Props- Phone/office stationary
12. Filming log
The first day of filming we made the mistake of rushing straight into
everything with only a vague and basic plan. This therefore caused
problems, as the quality was very poor, meaning by the second time we
came to film we had to start over as everything we had wasn’t to standard.
Second day- After coming up with a much more structured plan we began to
start the filming, of which we did in a chronological order. Decs running
scenes became apparent to be the easiest of which to film, we spent a lot of
time on the conversation between James and Declan as we didn’t make a
script beforehand in which we should of
Third day- By this day of filming we knew what we wanted them both to say,
in which after a few takes we put the best parts together and created the
conversation as a whole
