CSADD: SUPPORT FOR YOUNG SAILORS
Representatives from Navy Personnel Command's (NPC) fleet engagement team will visit Norfolk, 27-28
August (and San Diego the week of 23 September) to discuss the latest personnel policies' impact on the
fleet. While some briefings will be directed at Sailors themselves, a major goal of this trip is to "ensure
command leadership teams understand current manpower programs," according to the head enlisted
community manage, CAPT Bruce Deshotel. Max participation and involvement from all levels of the chain of
command is critical to making the fleet engagement a success. Ensure your commands are participating at
the maximum level possible and be prepared to ask questions and actively engage. Briefings will be at Naval
Air Station Oceana on 27 August and Naval Station Norfolk 28 August. The schedule of events is listed below:

FLEET ENGAGEMENT TEAMS SET TO HIT THE FLEET
A junior Sailor in a new command might feel lost. Whether fresh out of A-school, or tackling their first or
second tour, peers are in a position to help with career and personal issues. The Coalition of Sailors Against
Destructive Decisions (CSADD) is one initiative to let Sailors know that shipmates can help. Another tool that
can prevent trending toward destructive behavior is a solid Sponsorship program. Study after study shows
that good "onboarding" of newcomers improves their team assimilation, job satisfaction and performance. A
Sailor's first 72 hours in a new command is critical. Ensure your indoc programs have command involvement
and set your new Sailors up for success.
