This assignment required us to think critically about why we put people in cliques based on generalizations.

1. High School Cliques
For this assignment, we as a class had to identify 5 of the most prominent high school cliques.
We did this to show us how we generalize and stereotype without even knowing it. The 5 cliques
that we chose as a class were:
1. Jocks
2. Preps
3. Stoners
4. Band Geeks
5. Nerds
Then we were asked to explain what characteristics made people fit into these cliques. When
we gave answers that were generalizations, we realized that it was stereotyping.
I liked this assignment because it helped us all realize that we are stereotyping and we really
didn’t think that we were. This will help me in the future because I will remember this
assignment and remember that making generalizations is wrong.
