Quantitative analysis:
• Foundation e-Laad.nl in The Netherlands will install 10,000
charge points between now and 2012
• French government wants to install 75,000 charge points by
2015
• Germany aims to have 1 million electric vehicles by 2020

Logica & Electric Vehicle charging
Problem
CO2 emissions of passenger cars account for about 12% of the European Union's carbon
emissions. Electric transport is significantly more economical and can reduce this
percentage by up to 40%. Electric transport will have an enormous impact on network
operators.
Network operators are looking for smart solutions which will limit the investment
required in the network. For this reason the network operators want to build up
experience with electric transport as soon as possible in order to test and understand the
impact of electric vehicle charging on the grid.
Analysis
Solution
In 2009, Enexis, Alfen and Logica started a joint R&D project which developed an end-to-
end solution for a charging point infrastructure. Logica has concentrated primarily on the
information interchange required between the charging points and the back office,
including remote management, identification/authorisation and transaction processing.
With this system the current e-laad.nl business is supported.
