1. Keeping Carlsbad
Green
“Keeping Carlsbad Green” is an Interdisciplinary Thematic Unit designed to give students an
opportunity to learn about their local environment, learn how to be a “green” citizen, and take
pride in their hometown’s natural beauty. Students will learn about Marine Biology in local
lagoons, the geochemistry of local environments, the power of writing persuasive arguments to
bring about change, and the experience of being out in the field.
This project will involve Math, English, Chemistry and Marine Biology teachers in a combined
effort to deliver an authentic, unique and rich experience for students to take with them for the
rest of their lives. Change begins with the individual, and together, individuals can bring about
change. Lets instill into our children the hope and tools needed to preserve a beautiful, green, and
pristine Carlsbad for the future.
