5. “I learned that
courage was not the
absence of fear, but
the triumph over it.
The brave man is not
he who does not feel
afraid, but he who
conquers that fear.”
Nelson Mandela
8. How Does It Work?
• Reading teams are made up of students
from Grades 6-12
• Each Team has 2 advisors
9. When will teams meet?
• Teams will meet 2 times per week on
Saturdays and Wednesdays
– From: 9:15-9:35
• On these days, you will have an extended
break after lunch instead of advisory
• The Book Bowl will last for 6 weeks
– From Nov. 7 – Dec. 22
10. • You choose which books you want to read
• But teams must read all the books so you
can answer the questions in the
competition
• You can earn extra points by creating
Projects
• Winning teams win a Pizza & Bowling Trip
12. Team Strategy
• During your 1st meeting today, decide:
– A Team name
– Who will read each book (this is important!)
– Choose books that interest you and are at your
reading level
– Brainstorm ways to remember the plot,
characters and setting of the books
– Create a Timeline for reading the books
– Make some Creative Projects to earn points
14. Book Bowl Projects
• Individual Projects must be linked to the
books
• Types of Projects :
