What is body art?
• It is art that is put on our bodies.

• For example:
     - Tattoos
     - Piercings
     - Face and body painting
     - Make-up
• This is when permenant ink is
  inserted into the skin using
  needles.

• They mean different things in
  different cultures.

• Becoming very popular and seen
  as fashionable and “cool”.

• Also used for identification. For
  example by gangs.
Henna tattoos
  • These are temporary tattoos.

  • Done by dying the skin with
    ink from the Henna plant.

  • Used mainly in Indian and
    Hindu cultures.

  • Indian and Hindu brides have
    these tattoos on their hands
    and feet.

Piercings
• This is puncturing or cutting a hole
  in the skin where jewellery can be
  worn.

• Most common piercings include:
     - Nose
     - Ears
     - Tongue
     - Lip
     - Belly button (naval)
     - Eyebrow

Make - up
• Applying substances to face and body
  to improve the appearance.

• Applied by girls.

• For example:
       - Lipstick
       - Eye shadow
       - Eye liner
       - Mascara
       - Blusher
       - Foundation
       - False eyelashes
Face painting
• This is painting faces using face
  paints.

• Children normally get their
  faces painted for birthday
  parties.

• Fun designs can be drawn on
  the face
Graffiti
• Writing or drawing that is sprayed
  illegally on public property.

• Graffiti artists express themselves
  in public.

• It is seen as vandalism! Do you
  agree or disagree?

• Banksy is a famous anonymous
  graffiti artist.
