- 1. How to Upload Medical Images to SoftMD™
Uploading images is a two-part process:
First, find out where the medical images are located on
your CD by uploading the “DICOMDIR” file to SoftMD.
Here are the steps:
1. Put the CD into your laptop or hospital computer
2. Login to https://www.softmd.org
3. Click on ‘Upload Medical Images’ listed in the upper-left hand
corner
4. Enter the UNOS ID and then click ‘Continue’ (it may take up to
60 seconds for the green ‘Upload’ arrow to show up))
5. Click the green Upload arrow and then click ‘My Computer,’
followed by clicking on your CD drive
6. Find the DICOMDIR file (not DICOM but “DICOMDIR”) and
double-click it. This will put the DICOMDIR into the bottom
quadrant of the ‘Uploader’
7. With the DICOMDIR file in the bottom quadrant, click the big
green arrow located at the bottom of the ‘Uploader.’
8. Click on the newly created patient folder (see UNOS ID) in your
Archive, and then click on the DICOMDIR to see what folders
the medical images are located in. You will see the file path(s)
where the images are located. Remember the file path(s) and
proceed to uploading the medical images. (See the next set of
steps below)
9. If you have any questions, immediately call 310.413.4627.
Second, after locating the medical images are on the CD
(using the DICOMDIR), you then upload the images to
SoftMD™.
Here are the steps:
1. Leave the CD in your laptop or hospital computer
2. You’re already logged into https://www.softmd.org

- 2. 3. Click on ‘Upload Medical Images’ listed in the upper-left hand
corner
4. Again enter the UNOS ID and click ‘Continue’
5. Click the green Upload arrow and then click on your CD drive
6. Find the folder or folders where the medical images are located
and then double click the folder(s)
7. The medical images in these folders will be transferred to the
bottom quadrant for uploading. Now click the big green arrow
located at the very bottom of the Uploader. This will begin the
medical image upload process.
8. When done uploading all images, you can click on the newly
created patient folder (see UNOS ID) in your Archive to view the
medical images.
9. If you have any questions, immediately call 310.413.4627.
How to share a donor’s medical images with a transplant
physician or coordinator
Note: in order to view images, each user must be registered with SoftMD™ (see
page 3 to learn how to register new users)
Here are the steps:
1. Click on the patient folder (in Archive) you would like to share
2. Click the ‘Email a Physician’ icon in the toolbar at the top of the page.
This icon appears as an envelope
3. Select one or more of the following options for sharing the link to
access the patient folder. (Please note that iyou have more than one
patient folder for this donor, then each folder will have its own link):
Option 1 - Copy and Paste the link and supporting information
into DonorNet's Donor Highlights section
Option 2 - Copy and Paste the link and supporting information
into your Web-based email

into your own email application (e.g., Outlook, Outlook
Express, Mac Mail, etc.)
The transplant center user will use this link(s) to access all of the medical
images in a patient’s folder. If this user is already registered with SoftMD,
then they login as follows:
1. Copy and paste the SoftMD donor link into their browser address
bar
2. Enter their company email address and SoftMD password and click
‘Login’
3. Click on the patient folder in the Archive
If the transplant center user is not registered with SoftMD, then see the
instruction below.
How to register a transplant center physician or coordinator
to immediately view medical images on SoftMD™
Here are the steps:
1. Get the following information for the person you will register:
a. Name
b. Transplant Center
c. Job Title
d. Transplant Center Email Address
e. Telephone Number
2. Go to www.softmd.org, the SoftMD login page, then click ‘Register
Now’ and enter and submit the new user’s information. An email
will be sent to this new user, which will include their SoftMD
password.
3. Next, immediately call SoftMD at 310.413.4627 so that the new user
account will be activated as soon as possible (usually within 10
minutes). If you do not call SoftMD, new user account activation may
take up to 24 hours.
