   Some things you must know about TD-LTE:
   3 commercial TD-LTE networks to date: Aero2 (Poland), Mobily (Saudi Arabia) and STC (Saudi Arabia).
   Strong support of TD-LTE in APAC: Malaysia, Taiwan, Australia, South Korea, China and India.
   Volume production of TD-LTE handsets starting to materialize by the end of 2012. Smartphones available by 2013.
   Deployment timeline of TD-LTE by China Mobile is crucial for the success of TD-LTE globally.

LTE RAN Infrastructure and Devices Trends Q3 2011




        NSN-Motorola and Huawei had the lion’s share of awarded LTE contracts, with 29% and 26% respectively.
        Huawei and Ericsson won contracts from Colombian operator UNE EPM for the deployment of an LTE
         network, expected to go live early next year.
        Ericsson also signed a TD-LTE deal in India with Augere Wireless Broadband, with services to start next
         year.
        Slow down in WiMAX RAN, but faster growth in LTE RAN.

WiMAX Device Trends - Q3 2011




  The top 50 WiMAX operators tracked in 4GCounts accounted for 73.4% of
  the total BWA/WiMAX device activated base.
  95% were mobile WiMAX devices, 3.5% were fixed WiMAX devices and
  1.5% were proprietary devices.

   •Top 3 vendors among top 50 WiMAX operators are: NSN-Motorola, Samsung and
   HTC.
   •Handsets/smartphones have become the dominant 4G devices today, surpassing
   USB dongles and modems.
   •Tablets are taking off rapidly, and the trend in 2012 will be towards these devices.

WiMAX Base Station Trends - Q3 2011




 GLOBAL METRICS:
 •   At the end of Q3 2011, the industry reported a total of 800,000 base station sectors installed
 • Among the Top 50 WiMAX operators, mobile WiMAX base stations sector installed base
 accounted for 84%
 • Among the top 50 WiMAX operators, Samsung has retained the leading position in terms of
 WiMAX base stations installed

Conclusions
REGULATION
The major steps that all regulators should consider following: 1) Start refarming
analog to digital spectrum 2) Take back unused spectrum from carriers that are not
fully utilizing it 3) Do not allocate too much spectrum or an entire band in the hands
of only one player.

DEPLOYMENTS
The two largest markets in the world in terms of population, China and India, are
preparing for deploying TD-LTE

DEVICES
Carriers launching TD-LTE in 2011 and early 2012 will use devices such as USB
dongles, data cards and routers

Some things you must know about TD-LTE: 3 commercial TD-LTE networks to date: Aero2 (Poland), Mobily (Saudi Arabia) and STC (Saudi Arabia). Strong support of TD-LTE in APAC: Malaysia, Taiwan, Australia, South Korea, China and India. Volume production of TD-LTE handsets starting to materialize by the end of 2012. Smartphones available by 2013. Deployment timeline of TD-LTE by China Mobile is crucial for the success of TD-LTE globally. LTE RAN Infrastructure and Devices Trends Q3 2011  NSN-Motorola and Huawei had the lion’s share of awarded LTE contracts, with 29% and 26% respectively.  Huawei and Ericsson won contracts from Colombian operator UNE EPM for the deployment of an LTE network, expected to go live early next year.  Ericsson also signed a TD-LTE deal in India with Augere Wireless Broadband, with services to start next year.  Slow down in WiMAX RAN, but faster growth in LTE RAN. Conclusions REGULATION The major steps that all regulators should consider following: 1) Start refarming analog to digital spectrum 2) Take back unused spectrum from carriers that are not fully utilizing it 3) Do not allocate too much spectrum or an entire band in the hands of only one player.
