  1. This is a short presentation avout the progress of the assessment document. The first phase of the Plan Bothnia project is about collecting and harmonizing geodata. If we want to test a Maritime Spatial Planning Process this step is essential. First we need to know what information we have.
  2. We have gathered so far 128 layers. This is in our opinion a very good figure.
  3. It has been achieved thanks to our partners who have made a great effort to gather all geodata.
  4. And it has been done in such a short time!
  5. The assessment document, now in version1, is teh result of this amazing job. We can divide all information in four chapters plus the analysis.
  6. The number of maps in the environmental chapter is missleading since most of them are about fisheries.
  7. Some maps in the Physical aspects chapter have been created by the lead partner – there is no GIS data available about currents or ice cover days in the Bothnian Sea.
  8. As I said most of the maps in this chapter are about fisheries. In fact, there is little information about envirionment.
  9. We are lucky to have VMS (Vessel Monitoring System) data.
  10. And the shipping and risk accidents data from the BRISK project is also VERY useful.
  11. Nordregio has provided us with important information about what humans do on land.
  12. Unfortunately the information about shallow areas in Finland is not reliable. We had to create it ourselves with the help of a depth relief dataset and a nautical chart. The Swedish side, however, is very well documented thanks to the data provided by Naturvårdsverket.
  13. These might be the most important layers for starting an analysis. We overlapped them to see who, where and how the Bothnian Sea is been used.
  14. There are five places where these layers overlap.
