Feed in tariff Feed in tariff are credited with the large scale introduction of Renewable energy sources in many countries some key examples being Germany and Israel. The government in about half way though the consultancy phase and the scheme is aimed to come into effect in April 2010 The Scheme will not be a true feed in tariff as premium amount will paid for unit generated rather than unit supplied to the grid German’s Renewable Generation amounts have risen exponentially with the boom beginning in the mid nineties ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

  1. The national grid is broken up into several layers The national Grid company owns the hardware in England and Wales, And overseas the maintaince of the correct voltage and Frequency. Then there are 14 DNO’s who are licensed to look after and maintain the grid equipment in there particular area. In north Wales this i Scottish Power. If you wish to contact your generation capacity to grid you have to apply for permission to them. Then there are the suppliers who the consumer pays for there energy consumption. They buy the power the consumer uses on a open market set up. The supplier pays a charge to the DNO and the SO for the use and maintance of the national grid accounting for around 15% of a consumers bill.
  2. Each generator has to buy a certain number of Renewable energy certificates each year. It can earn Rocs by buying power from a renewable generator or if the cost of a buying the ROCs it can chose to buy from Ofgem at a set cost currently around 31p a rock. If a supplier buys a lot of renewable power and goes over its ROCS quota it can sell them on. The buy out of 31p a rock means that the price of Rocs are usually valued at this price but Rocs are sold on an open market. All the money OFgem receives as part of its buy out funds is distributed between the renewable generators dependent on how much they generate. Even Off grid renewable generation can qualify to earn ROCS .
