4. I. Chapter: On The Hautboy
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Of all the wind instruments in the orchestra of the
th
18 century, the Hautboy stands out the most.
As the literal translation of the original french
word 'Hautbois' indicates, it is the loud
and high woodwind instrument.
5. Developing from the shawm at the end of
th
the 17 century, the hautboy became one of the
most favoured instruments of the Baroque era.
To this day it continues to be used- now
transformed into the modern oboe- in the
symphony orchestra.
In the 60's it was rediscovered and brought
back to life as the 'baroque oboe'.

This is only possible in a few universities and places
are limited. In my case this means that I am one
of 8 students, that have come from all over the world
to Amsterdam to study this specialised and
challenging art form with the master of the masters.
8. Our daily work consists not only of
physically and mentally demanding
hours of practice, but also endless
reedmaking (building the mouthpieces)
and decoding hieroglyphics (reading
historical prints and manuscriptes).

10. III. Chapter: On Financial Matters
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Instruments want to be bought.
Many. In all sizes, colours and shapes.
Landlords want money.
A lot. Monthly.
Cheese wants to be eaten.
Regularely. With bread.
Beer and coffee want to be drunk.
In moderation. But still.
This is all fine.
11. Unfortunately tuition fees also want to
be paid, otherwise the music will stop.
And unfortunately the fees are not low and
need to be supported.

13. IV.Chapter: On The Correct Choice
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Is one better or worse off
with an unusual study?
Whatever - what still needs to be said:
I cancelled my 'normal' life in Vienna,
to take on this exceptional challenge.
14. Normal grant- no chance:
Too old, study abroad, artist, already have a degree.
But my former profession is not accepted
Here, which makes earning money alongside
even more difficult than at home.
For three years I have been extremely careful with
my money, so that now I can just about get by.
For my final year it would be nice to at least be able to
abandon the worries of my tuition fees.
