Chaminade University of Honolulu is a Marianist, Catholic university founded in 1955 that serves Hawaiian students. It was established by five Marianist brothers to provide a Catholic education for local students using the G.I. Bill after World War 2. The university aims to educate students in a collaborative environment, prepare them for successful careers and service, and develop moral character to build a just society through its Marianist characteristics which include forming students in faith, integral education, and educating for justice. As a Native Hawaiian serving institution, it values Hawaiian culture, contributes to its development, and includes Hawaiian students and Pacific Islanders in all aspects of its community and programs.
