The Constitution
• The government of the USA is based on the US
Constitution. The Constitution was signed on
September 17, 1787 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
• Each state has its own government but the there is
one Federal Government for all. The Constitution
describes what the Federal Government is allowed
to do. Any powers not specified in the Constitution
are reserved for the states or the people.
• The Federal Government is in charge of settling any
disputes between states. It is also in charge of the
army and foreign affairs as well as issuing currency
and running a postal service.
• To prevent any person or group from becoming too
powerful, the separation of powers and a series of
checks and balances were built into the
Constitution.
The Constitution
Executive Branch
• The President of the United States administers
the Executive Branch of our government.
• The President is responsible for implementing and
enforcing the laws written by Congress.
• The executive branch also includes the Vice
President and other officials, such as members of
the cabinet.
• The cabinet is made up of the heads of the 15
major departments of the government.
Legislative Branch
• The legislative branch is made up of the Congress
which is the House of Representatives and the
Senate.
• Important duty of Legislative branch is to make
federal law. Laws are written, discussed and voted
in congress.
• The House of Representatives is made up of 435
elected members.
• The Senate is composed of 100 Senators, 2 for each
state.
Judicial Branch
• The Judicial part of our federal government
includes the Supreme Court and 9 Justices.
• The Supreme Court is the highest court in the land.
• They are special judges who interpret laws
according to the Constitution.
• They are the highest court in the country.

The United States is situated between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, bordered by Canada to the north and Mexico to the south.The nation's capital is Washington DC.The United States is a federation of fifty states and one federal district, Washington, District of Colombia. Forty-eight of the fifty states make up the contiguous United States, and Alaska, while still part of the North American continent, is separated from the lower forty-eight by Canada. The fiftieth state, which entered the union most recently, is Hawaii, a chain of islands located in the Pacific Ocean. 
  2. The Bald Eagle was officially declared the National Emblem of the United States by the Second Continental Congress in 1782. It was selected by the USA's founding fathers because it is a species unique to North America. It has become the living symbol of the USA's freedom, spirit and pursuit of excellence. Its image and symbolism have played a significant role in American architecture, art, folklore and music.
  3. The Constitution gives Congress the power to make laws for America. For a bill to become a law it must be passed in the House of Senate and House of Representatives. The Constitution gives the President the executive function, the power to carry out the laws of America. The Secretaries of State and the President make up the cabinet and meets regularly to decide what they need to do so that they can run America properly. The US Constitution created a Supreme Court to provide the judicial function for the state. There are 9 judges who will decide the laws of America actually means, and how could they apply when it comes to the court.
  4. By having these provided by one central government US citizens reduce the amount of tax they have to pay.
  5. The President is elected by the entire country and serves a four-year term. The cabinet is made up of the heads of the 15 major departments of the government. The cabinet gives advice to the President about important matters.The Bureaucracy is part of the Executive Branch.
  6. Senators are elected by their states and serve six-year termsA representative serves 2 years. The Vice President of the U.S. is considered the head of the Senate, but does not vote in the Senate unless there is a tie.
  7. Members of the Judicial Branch are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate.Its decisions are final, and no other court can overrule those decisions.They have no term limits.
