1. Leading a Healthy Lifestyle The objective of this lesson is to learn about the major health issues we face today and the risk factors involved in these issues.
2. What’s your Health IQ? Most deaths are caused by our behaviors. True If you have history of heart disease in your family, there is nothing you can do about your risk for heart disease. False, many behavioral factors can be changed to reduce your risk of heart disease. The leading cause of death in teens is motor vehicle accidents. True, research shows that nearly 5,000 teens (16-20) die annually in motor vehicle accidents and another 40,000 are seriously injured.

8. Health Risk Behaviors Sedentary lifestyle: Raise in risk of certain diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. Alcohol and other drug use: Alcohol and drug abuse can cause liver disease, certain types of cancer, heart disease, and brain damage. Sexual activity: Sexual activity outside of a committed relationship, such as marriage, puts people at risk of HIV infection, STIs, and unplanned pregnancy.

Health Risk Behaviors cont… Behaviors that cause injuries: As mentioned earlier, a risk behavior that can lead to homicide could be carrying a weapon or not wearing a seat belt can lead to death in a car accident. Tobacco use: Smoking is the single leading cause of death in the US. Smoking also raises the risk of heart disease, cancer and respiratory disease. Poor eating habits: Eating habits can either lower or raise your risk of disease.
