After logging in to Moodle, you can see your name at the top right hand corner of the screen.

To edit your profile, click on your name.

On the Profile page, you can see your basic information.Your default portrait is a smiley and your country and city/town are set as
“Hong Kong” by default.

Click the Edit profile tab to edit your profile.

On the Edit profile page, you can see your Surname, First name and Email address. These information cannot be changed.

You can control who can see your email address by clicking on the the pull-down menu next to Email display.

If you decide not to release your email address to anyone, select Hide my email address from everyone.

On the contrary, if you want to display your email address to everyone, select Allow everyone to see my email address.

If you would like to allow only course members, such as your teacher(s) and classmates in the course, to see your email address, click
Allow only other course members to see my email address.

Next, make sure that your email address is enabled by selecting This email address is enabled in the Email activated field,
otherwise you will not be able to receive any emails from your instructors, students or system administrator.

You can select your Preferred language, e.g. English, Simplified Chinese or Traditional Chinese, from the pull-down menu as
shown above.

But if your instructor has already set the preferred language for the course,
any changes you made to the language setting will not be effective.

Next, we move on to the Description field.

In the text box under Description, you can put down any information about yourself,
such as your contact information, or even a welcome message.

Note that this is a mandatory field.

You can upload a picture to your profile. The picture can be viewed by other users in the discussion forum.
Your default portrait is a smiley.

Click on the Browse... button.

Choose your picture file and then click on the Open button.

You can also enter your interests in your profile.

Say, in this case, we enter “Education Technology” and “Hiking”.

Click on the Show Advanced button for more available profile setting options.

Note that information you put down in these fields will be visible to other users.

But information you entered in these fields (as shown above) will not be visible to the others, e.g., your students.
Please make use of the Description field we mentioned earlier if you want to show your contact information to your students.

Remember to click on the Update profile button after you have finished.

Click on the Show Advanced button on the right hand side of the Edit profile page for more options on email and forum
settings. These settings will be discussed in Advanced settings of profile: receiving emails and subscribing forum post in Moodle.
