To create a custom scale in Moodle:
1. Access the Grader Report page by clicking Grades in the Administration block and selecting View under Scales.
2. Click Add a new scale and enter a name and items for the scale separated by commas in the Scale field.
3. Describe each item in the Description field and click Save changes.
4. The new custom scale will be listed and can be edited or deleted.

After logging in to Moodle, click on the course in which you want to create a scale for grading activities
such as Journal writing and participation in discussion forums. In this case, we click on Demo Course.

Click on Grades in the Administration block to access the Grader Report.

On the Grader Report page, click on the pull-down menu named Choose an action ....

Select View under Scales from the pull-down menu.

On the Course scales page, Standard scales are listed as examples for your reference.
Please note that you cannot change the content of the Standard scales.

You can create a scale for each of your courses. The scale(s) you created is/are listed under Custom scales on the Course
scales page of each course. To create a scale for your course, click on the Add a new scale button at the bottom of the page.

You are required to type in a name for the scale in the Name field.
In this case, we type in Scale for Presentation Skills.

The Scale field is a mandatory field.You should input the items in the scale into the Scale field and separate them by commas.
For example, you can use numbers (e.g. 1-4) and/or words (e.g. Excellent, Great, Good) to represent the different levels in the scale.

In this case, we use both numbers and words to represent the four levels in the scale,
e.g., 4=Excellence, 3=Good, 2=Fair, 1=Poor.

Next, you can input the descriptions of the four levels in the scale into the Description field.
In this case, we list out the criterion of each level in a table.

After you finish, click on the Save changes button.

A new scale is created and it is listed under Custom scales.

You can change the content of the scales you created.
If you wish to edit Scale for Presentation Skills, click on the Edit icon ( ) as shown above.

If you want to delete a scale, click on the Delete icon ( ).

After you finish, click on the course name, e.g., Demo Course, on the top of the page
to go back to the course’s front page.
