2. VOCABULARY
• Hydrosphere: Includes all the water on the Earth
• Groundwater: Water beneath the Earth's surface
• Ocean current: Current of water that crosses
oceans and does not mix with the rest of the
ocean water
• Sedimentation: The depositing of materials by a
river
• Erosion: The process by which soil and rock are
removed from the Earth's surface by natural
processes such as wind or water flow, and then
transported and deposited in other locations.
3. • Transportation: The carrying of small
materials by a river
• Flow: (Caudal)The amount of water a river
carries.
• Wave: The movement caused by wind moving
the water on the surface of the sea
• Tide: (Marea)The natural rising and lowering
of the water level of oceans and seas, caused
by the Moon´s gravitational pull
4. LISTENING
• Truck 17, p.43
• Activities p.43
• What is Hydrosphere?
• What forms does the water take?
5. THE WATER CYCLE
• The water cycle explains how continental
water, surface water and groundwater all
originate from precipitation
8. Parts of a river
Nacimiento
Afluente Cauce
Caudal Llanura aluvial
Ribera
Desembocadura
Humedal
9. MORE VOCABULARY
• Bog: Pantano
• Marsh: Marisma
• Slope: ladera
• Meander: Meandro
• River bed: lecho, fondo del río
10. Upper Course
This is where the river is still young and
quite small, often up in the hills. You might
find steep valleys and waterfalls in the
upper course. This causes erosion
Middle Course
This is when the river gets
larger- the valleys may be
wider and the slopes more
gentle. The river transport
the smallest materials
Lower Course
The Lower course of the river is
when it approaches the sea. The
river is at its widest, and it often
goes through flat land (the flood
plain).The river deposits the
materials (sedimentation)
