Elizabeth Blackwell was the first female doctor in the United States. She overcame obstacles to be accepted into medical school and graduated in 1849. Throughout her career, she opened several hospitals and medical facilities that were staffed by women and served poor female patients, including the New York Infirmary for Women and Children in 1857. Blackwell helped pave the way for women in the medical field and is considered a hero for changing societal expectations and improving healthcare for women.

Blackwell's inspiration was when a close friend was dying the close friend said that she
would have a female physician for any thing.
The Infirmary that she opened in 1857 had all female staff.
Elizabeth is a hero because she worked as a nurse. She helped people who were hurt
or dying. She opened a places for the poor. She was amazing.
