This document discusses the challenges facing newspapers from a decline in print advertising and sales revenues. It proposes that newspapers can harness the power of web 2.0 and social media to engage subscribers and drive new revenue streams. Specifically, it recommends newspapers create an online community for subscribers to submit and share content, which would increase engagement and page views. This interactive community could then be monetized through targeted advertising like banner ads and sponsorships embedded within the user-generated content areas. The goal is to recapture lost revenues and reader loyalty through a social experience online.
