2. Introduction
• Hi everyone my name is Nathan Prime
I am an explorer for facts. You and I will be exploring the Olympics and major facts
relating to the world’s greatest sporting event.
3. Let me introduce you to my dog; his
name is Trekker because he likes to dig
up facts.
4. Ok, let’s move on to the Olympics.
The first games were held in ancient
Greece’s city named Olympia in 776 BC.
Athletes across the known world would
compete.
5. The Modern History
• The games were discontinued until 1896;
they resumed in the city of Athens, Greece.
They are held every four years with the
winter and summer games rotating opposite
each other every two years. So, 2014 is the
year of the Winter Olympics. Can you name
the year of the Summer Olympics? ________
6. Help Trekker name the winter sport
depicted in the pic. Write your answer
below the pic.
7. The Olympics ring was created in 1902 by Pierre de Coubertin.
He is commonly credited as the father of the modern games.
Trekker just sniffed out this fact about the rings. Each ring represent
each land mass of the earth.
8. The History of the medals.
To reward the competitors in Ancient
Olympics, a wreath of olive branches
was placed on the winner's head (in
Greek, this is called a kotinos). The
modern system was created in 1902.
This standard of using three medals;
each represented the place the athlete
made remains today. Gold is 1st
place, Sliver is 2nd place and Bronze is
3rd place.

information given.
9. The Olympic Torch
To honor the ancient Grecians, a torch
is lit in Athens and travels around the
world to the host country. Can you
name this year’s host nation and what
continent?
10. Well fellow explorers, Trekker and I
want to thank you for helping us
discover facts about the Olympics.
Until next time keep exploring.
