1. Q6: What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
By Ilarna Nche
2. Overall
Over this process, I have learnt a variety of skills that have improved my knowledge
and understanding of media technologies. With this in mind, I have found various
unproblematic ways to access information and produce a strong conventionally
film.
3.
4. Blogs
When researching and planning for
Intrusion, I presented this all through a blog
site called Posterous. This was very effective
as it meant it could store all of my work in
many different forms. As blogging, wasn’t
something I had encountered before, it was
quite confusing at first on how Posterous
operated. Although, as the weeks
developed, I had gotten more use to the
structure by adapting to the way Posterous
worked when creating new posts and
embedding videos from Youtube. Posterous
has taught me that the media industryis Posterous did have a problem though, because it
forever evolving as blogs are a new exciting was closing down so we had to move our
way of showing how a product is developed. planning and researchtoa different area. Word
press was our next choice, however it didn’t
gives us that modern niche look that Posterous
gave. As I had previous experience from
Posterous, I was able to use that to find my way
around Word Press. Word press was more direct
and not as user friendly as Posterous in terms of
presentation.
5. Prezi
Prezi helped me vary my blogs when
researching and planning and
answering the evaluation questions.
I had very limited knowledge of Prezi
and so learnt through the helpful
tutorials given by Prezi itself. In
terms of Prezi, it is a great
presentation website which really
enhanced my research as I
progressed during the weeks. Prezi
shows the creative side of the media
industry, allowing the whole
community to express and share
their ideas to people who have the
same interests as you.
6. Microsoft Office

research. I knew a lot about I had great experience with word

technology used by millions of software before. Excel helped me
people around the world. present my data into Pie charts
and bar charts when presenting my
surveys to vary the posts and
present stuff in more ways.
7. Dafont
Dafont was a great website to use as we
had a variety of fonts to choose from.
What was great about Dafont, was the
fact that the fonts were all in different
categories and so I could search
onhorrorfonts and search for a relevant
font for our thriller. I learnt that there are
more font’s out there other than the
standard ones that you see in Word and
Powerpoint. As theydidn’t have as much
effect on the thriller than the ones found
on Dafont.
8. Free Sound
Free sound was a essential site
for us, as we could download
free sound and place it in our
thriller without worrying about
Copy right issues. I was aloud to
explore as many sounds as I
wanted and choose the
appropriate eerie sounds that
would fit in well with the thriller.
9. Imotion HD
Instead of making the ident in
adobe photoshop, we thought we
we would make it using stop
motion, which would create a
different approach than most
idents in movies as it made It
more unsettling and connote to
the audience that this company
was a thriller based.
10. IMDb
IMDb was a great website
which helped me analyse my
thriller’s further as it was a
online movie database which
gathered a lot of information
on many movies and using this
website taught me how to
gather information about
thrillers as on this website It
allowed users to rate the films
they have watched, which
helped with target audience
because I got to identify what
sort of audience like what type
of thrillers which gave me an
insight on who would like ours.
11. Sony Handycam HD
The camera we used was a Sony Handycam HD
camcorder. We used the camera to do filming for
our thriller and preliminary task. As I have had
experience of filming with this sort device, I was
able to improve my skills and knowledge when I
was introduced to more effects that the camera
was capable of, which in Hein-Sight could differ
my cinematography when filming. With this in
mind, I was able to vary the footage by using
effects like Macro zoom, spot focus and slow
motion. It also helped that the Camcorder was HD
as it creates a crisper image than if it wasn’t in HD.
This shows that technology is evolving as high
quality cameras used to be expensive and now it is Click the picture above to view a

footage, which shows how important HD is. As camcorder.
well as that 3D cameras have been introduced to
show a new way of filming.
12. Tripod
As we had a camcorder we thought that
the footage shouldn’t be all handheld. As
we wanted to provide a variation in our
thriller; so we used a tripod to enable this.
I hadn’t used a Tripod for filming before as
I have preferred to use handheld.
However I learnt that a tripod is a really
effective way of introducing more
effective shots like Panning and tracking
with tilting shots to enhance our thriller.

With that in mind, we took the advantage where the camera isn’t as steady as the other footage. On
of this by using panning shots of the the right there is an example of footage using a tripod.
props. This enabled steady footage as it
doesn’t shake as much as when you do it
handheld.
13. Torch
An important technology I learnt from
this process is lighting. Using a Torch
to create effective shadows has
enhanced our thriller to build up
suspense which connotes the
convention of a thriller. To create low
key lighting I learnt that you only
need one light source to create this
effect. Sometimes, we didn’t want to
have just low key lighting and so we
use our phones. The phone acted as a
reflector. This help create natural light
as it reflected off the phone.
14. SD card
The SD card was really effective because it
enabled me to upload my footage onto final
cut pro and the technology allowed us to use it
in our camcorder to film more footage.
15. Final Cut Express
During our postproduction, I learnt how to use Final Cut
Express. With this technology, I learnt how to edit with
transitions and effects. As I had limited experience when we did
the teaser trailer and the preliminary task, I was able to use this
knowledge to filter the lighting on frame to make the thriller
look darker. However the credits were where I learnt some new
skills. After being introduced to software called after effects, it
felt a little complicated and as we had a few lessons to edit, we
thought that making the credits in final cut express would be
easiest to do. Even though after effects provides more choices
with the credits, we were still able to make the credits work by
adding in effects on top of the credits like blink and stop motion
blur. To enhance this we wanted to add a unique feature, which
would establish our thriller; so we enlarged parts of the text.
This technology has helped me establish that editing is a major
part in the media industry and so learning how to edit has
increase my skills at making editing invisible.
16. Youtube
Youtube is a video sharing website, where users
can upload, view or share videos. This is a very
powerful tool for the media industry as it has
grown to become one of the most popular
websites in the world. As Youtube was
something that I was no stranger too, I was able
to use this experience to help me with
researching and planning for Intrusion. Youtube
aided me as a useful technology during the
process of researching thrillers and providing
examples. It also helped me with uploading my
rough cut and final cut so I could then embed it Click the link to view our final
into my blog. I learnt how to upload my thriller thriller opening.
onto YouTube and embed them onto posts.
YouTube is a great way to join the community
together with the use of communicating with
each other and having more access to other
parts of the worldwhich expands ourknowledge
around us.
17. Apple IMac computer
As I have experience on Apple products, I
found that I was able to use my experience on
the IMac to develop on my thriller. As apple
computers are branded for creative use, it was
extremely helpful for us to edit our thriller as it
complemented the software’s used. It also had
a user-friendly interface, which helped us find
our project and adapt it. However as Apple
provide the very best quality in their
products, I realised that as time has past, many
other companies are starting to compete with
Apple and are providing better unique devices.
Like Samsung and Dell.
