CLEAN CARE IS SAFER CARE
Health and hygiene
go hand in hand in
anybody's life. Hygiene
is defined as the
practice of keeping
oneself clean and free
of bacteria. Health
refers to the condition
of a person's body
or mind. Health and
hygiene practices
start at home. Good
habits, practices and
attitudes within the
home and school
environment help in
the development of
children. Both parents
and other family
members and also
teachers at pre-school
and post school level
play an important
role in the individual
development of
children.
Let us take the example
of oral care, hair care
and nail care of kids.
Oral care includes
proper brushing of the
teeth both after getting
up from the bed and
before going to bed.
Most of the children
are not taught to wash
their mouth after they
take liquid or solid
diet. Since mouth is
the place where the
food is masticated
and crushed by the
teeth and is mixed
with saliva and sent
through the gut to the
stomach, oral care
is important. Proper
brushing and mouth
washing practices
should be taught to
the kids otherwise,
food particles sticking
to the teeth will catch
bacteria and decay the
teeth. After brushing,
the gums and the teeth
are to be massaged so
that teeth protruding
will be prevented.
Caries or decay of
the teeth may affect
the digestive system
and bad odour from
the mouth will isolate
the child from other
children. The child
may be psychologically
upset. So oral care is
very imperative.
Regarding hair care,
toddlers and kids are
to be given regular
head bath or oil bath.
Bad smell due to
dust and oil is to be
removed by rinsing
the hair with good
shampoos. Head lice
is a big problem of the
hair. They are small
insects infecting the
scalp of the head. They
are infact external
parasites and lay their
sticky eggs ( nits )
along the hair at the
back of the ears and
back of neck regions.
The nits hatch into
small light brown or
black larvae or small
insects. they crawl and
walk along the hair
sucking the blood from
the scalp region. The
vital nutrients that are
supplied to the brain
cells by the blood get
affected, they crawl
into the eye lashes, arm
pits and even to the
private parts of a child.
Vision will be affected
due to this. Itching and
constant scratching
of the head irritate
the child. It is an
undesirable practice.
Now-a-days, lice-
comb, nit-combs and
chemical shampoos
are available to get
rid of the nits and the
lice. it is the duty of
the mothers to check
for the lice and nits
and clean their wards'
heads.
Some Children
develop the habit of
nose picking. It is
the tendency of the
toddlers and kids to
imitate the adults.
Adults should not
indulge in such
practice.
This habit should
be curtailed from
the beginning. Nose
picking, sneezing,
coughing without
using hand kerchiefs,
scratching the head
often, munching
chocolates, biscuits
etc; all the time are
all unattractive,
socially undesirable
practices. Nail biting
or onychophagia is
another unacceptable
practice. Parents
have the greater
responsibility to advise
their children not to
practice the above said
undesirable habits.
In olden days,
especially in sixties,
teachers at school
checked the children.
They would make note
of nail biters, head
scratching children
due to head lice etc;
They checked the
children whether they
would brush their teeth
properly and follow
oral hygiene. If they
would find swollen
gums due to gingivitis
of the gums, they would
advise the parents to
seek guidance of the
Dentists.
Positive practices and
habits are to be taught
properly. Education
begins at home itself.
Promoting awareness,
valuing good habits are
to be inculcated in the
minds of children. Use
of hand kerchiefs is to
be learnt by the kids.
Education, health
and hygiene aim to
stimulate the children.
Proper citizenship
training at the pre-
school environment
will enable the children
develop into good
citizens.
Good manners, good
habits, caring for
hygiene are to be
ingrained in the minds
of young toddlers and
children.
Children will definitely
learn by themselves,
" CLEAN CARE IS
SAFER CARE ".

PILLAR TIMES4 Dec 27 - Jan 2, 2016
Esthetic dentistry is the skills and
techniques used to improve the
art and symmetry of the teeth and
face to enhance the appearance as
well as the function of the teeth,
oral cavity, and face. Rehabilitating
your smile may be a simple matter
of getting your teeth cleaned,
whitening or bleaching your teeth
and replacing old discolored
fillings.
If you answer yes to ANY of the
following questions, we can help
you achieve a better and beautiful
smile.
• Are your teeth crooked or uneven
or out of line?
• Are all your teeth bright white or
are they somewhat dark, yellow,
or stained?
• Do any teeth appear too short, too
large, or too small?
• Do you have any gray, black, or
silver fillings in your teeth?
• Do you have any old crowns or
bridges with dark edges that
don't look natural?
• Are any of the biting edges
chipped or worn down?
• Are there spaces between any of
your teeth?
• Do you have a gummy smile —
showing too much gum tissue?
• Have your gums receded? Are
they puffy or red?
Full ceramic crowns
Full ceramic crowns have the ability
to permit better light transmission
through the body of the tooth,
creating a completely natural
appearance. With no black line
at gum level and made to match
your natural teeth in their size,
shape and color, an all-ceramic
crown provides a very natural
looking restoration and smile. The
predominant material choice for
all-ceramic crowns today is either
zirconia, or aluminous materials.
They provide a metal-free esthetic
option with a number of benefits.
Teeth Whitening
Teeth Whitening is done to lighten
the discoloration formed on the
tooth surface. The most common
causes include aging, consumption
of staining substances (coffee,
tea, colas, tobacco, betel nut etc.),
and old discolored fillings in the
teeth. During tooth formation,
consumption of the antibiotic
tetracycline or excessive fluoride
may also cause tooth discoloration.
At Tooth Helpline, teeth whitening
is done as a chair-side procedure
and gives excellent results. It is
ideal to get it done just before your
D-day.
Tooth colored filling
Tooth colored filling are done with
Composite material which provides
good durability and resistance to
fracture. Less tooth structure is
removed when the dentist prepares
the tooth, and this may result in
a smaller filling than that of an
amalgam. The colour can be exactly
matched to the adjacent teeth for
excellent esthetic results.
Gum contouring
A smile is considered a gummy
smile if a significant amount
of gingival tissue (gums) can be
seen as a person smiles. Many
people with gummy smiles are
very self-conscious when smiling.
Fortunately, these smiles can be
corrected with simple periodontal
surgery procedures such as Gum
contouring (Gingivoplasty). Gum
shaping can be done with Laser
which does not require anesthesia,
minimizes bleeding and the wounds
heal faster.
Gingivectomy
A gingivectomy is a type of minor
surgery that involves the removal
of a small amount of gum tissue
around a tooth or teeth. A
gingivectomy can be performed to
correct a poor smile or maybe done
to remove enlarged gums caused
by medications taken for epileptic
seizures and hypertension
Gum depigmentation
Gum depigmentation (aka gum
bleaching) is a procedure used
in cosmetic dentistry to remove
black spots or patches on the gums
caused by excessive melanin. The
normal color of the gum tissue
(gingiva) is pink, but excess
deposits of melanin (melanin
gingival hyperpigmentation) can
create black spots or patches on
the gums, creating an aesthetic or
cosmetic problem.

from sun shade and
escaped. I immediately
came to my another
